NAV4 Pennine 39
The NAV4 Pennine 39 is a trail event covering a 37-mile linear route. It follows a classic section of the Pennine Way through the Cumbrian and Durham Pennines, described as a stunning and remote part of the trail.
The route passes notable natural features including Low Force and High Force waterfalls, the Cauldron's Snout cascade, the geological feature of High Cup Nick, and the summit of Crossfell, which is the highest point in England outside of the Lake District. It includes checkpoints at Cauldron's Snout, Dufton Village Hall, the iconic Greg's Hut, and Garrigill Village Hall. The finish is at Alston YHA.
The event is described as small and sociable, with around 75 participants. Transport by coach from the finish at Alston YHA to the start at Bowlees is included in the entry fee. There are two start times: an early start for those expecting to take over 11 hours, and a standard start.
Registration is available at Alston YHA the evening before the event and on the morning of the event. Accommodation is available at Alston YHA or in Garrigill. The nearest train stations are Langwathby and Penrith, with a shuttle bus service available from Penrith.
The event is open to runners and walkers, with finishers' times ranging from six to fourteen hours. There are no formal cut-off times at checkpoints. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
