Trail Running calendar near Thornhill 2026-2027

An AS-category fell race in St John’s Chapel, Weardale covering 7 km with 400 m ascent on an out and back route up Chapelfell Top. The unmarked fell section requires navigation skills and prior fell running experience.

A multi-terrain festival centred on a 15 km race with significant climbs and a long downhill finish, plus junior loops and a tots dash, organised under UK Athletics rules with open and local prize categories.

A 29 km mountain SkyRace in Patterdale on 18 July 2026 with 2050 m ascent over St Sunday Crag and the Eastern Fells. Technical trails, electronic timing and checkpoints, plus a post-race meal and ranking points.

A semi technical 15km trail race around the base of Place Fell on the shores of Ullswater. Part of the Helvellyn Sky Ultra weekend, the route is fully marked, includes a mid route feed station and finishes with a recycled seed medal.

Trail races at Callendar House in Falkirk take place across parkland and woodland. Distances include 5km, 10km and a half marathon; the event is Canicross friendly and uses live chip-timing, with a medal and refreshments for finishers.

Join the Pete Bland 50th Kentmere Horseshoe on Sun 19 Jul 2026 in the Lake District for a challenging 19.8 km course with 1006 m of climb around classic Lakeland tops. Pre entry required; refreshments and parking at Kentmere Village Hall.

Tackle a scenic but testing 9.7 km trail in Coniston's Lake District with 732 m of climb, part of the Coniston Country Fair on Sun 19 Jul 2026. Entry on the day is £6 or included with fair admission. Minimum age 18 and teams are not allowed..

A long-distance trail event in the Lake District offering a roughly 100-mile loop with about 6300 m ascent and a 50-mile option from Dalemain to Coniston. Both routes use footpaths and bridleways and include staffed compulsory checkpoints.

Tackle classic Lake District terrain at the High Wether Howe fell race on Sat 25 Jul 2026, a 14 km route with 485 m of climb starting and finishing at Stepps Hall. Entry on the day is welcome and proceeds support the Shap community fund.

A mixed-terrain, just-under-12-mile urban orienteering run from the Hillend ski centre and Allermuir Hill down to Musselburgh harbour beach, featuring mandatory checkpoints, varied paths and a final stretch across sand to the finish.

Ambleside Sports is a BOFRA fell race on Thursday 30 July 2026 at Rydal Park near Ambleside. The 1.70 mile course climbs about 800 feet over bracken paths to a rocky summit and includes both junior and senior routes.

Join the Heart Of The Lakes Rydal Round, a scenic Lake District fell run of 9 miles with 915 m climb around Rydal Park. Entry is on the day and the race opens Ambleside Sports; sports field admission applies.

A 37 mile loop through the North Pennines AONB from Allendale via Ninebanks Alston and Nenthead. Solo ultra or three person relay with a 12 hour completion limit, waymarked route with checkpoints and downloadable GPX.

A fell race on Farleton Knott near Kendal with a 2.60 mile route rising about 750 feet. It counts as a BOFRA championship counter, includes junior and senior categories, and is held with permission of the Dallam Tower Estate.
