Keswick Lakeland Trails : Derwentwater events

A series of trail races and challenge routes takes place from Fitz Park in Keswick, using well marked and marshalled footpaths and bridleways around Derwentwater. The courses pass panoramic views of Derwentwater and the surrounding peaks of Skiddaw, Blencathra and the northern fells. Underfoot is generally good for trail running, with occasional muddy sections and some notable boggy ground in the Glenderaterra Valley. The routes contain no stiles.

Distances and basic entry rules

• 5K Derwentwater Sport Trail: age 12+, well marked course, no time limit.
• 10K Derwentwater Trail Run: age 16+, time limit 2 hours, prizes only for race entrants.
• 15K Derwentwater Trail Race: age 18+, time limit 2 hours, prizes for race entrants.
• 15K Derwentwater Trail Challenge: age 18+, time limit 3.5 hours, 60 minute cut-off at 4.8K.

Event village facilities include live music, race commentary, food and drink stalls and local vendors. Children under 12 can take part in free on the day fun trails and receive a finishers medal; these fun trails do not award winners prizes.

Practical and safety notes include mandatory race number collection on the day at registration at least 45 minutes before an allocated start time and horizontal attachment for timing. Entries are not transferable and there are no entries on the day. Water is limited on course so participants should carry their own supplies or bring a reusable cup; a water station is provided on the 10K and 15K courses with drinking water also available at the finish. In ear and over ear headphones are not permitted while bone conduction devices are allowed. Dogs are not permitted on the course. Medical cover and extensive marshal support are provided.
