The Iron Keep

The Iron Keep is a medieval trail running festival held at Carron Valley with event headquarters at Duncarron Medieval Village. The festival combines multiple race formats on a looped course that passes through the heart of a medieval-style village and the central start/finish area on every lap.

Races include:

  • Knights Quest - Half Marathon
  • Tiny Titans Kids Run
  • The Iron Keep - five hour siege Run, with Solo, Pairs, and Quads options

The five hour siege event is run as a multi-lap challenge with team categories racing relay-style and only one runner on course per team at a time. During the event the village square functions as the main hub and features a tavern-style aid station, team camp and rest areas, live announcements and music, and clear lap counting with race updates.

As dusk falls, torches are lit along the course and traditional music fills the square, so runners transition from daylight into a night-time atmosphere with torchlight and crowd presence. Fancy dress is strongly encouraged; prizes are awarded for Best Individual Costume, Best Team Theme, and People’s Champion by crowd vote. Event awards use themed titles such as Iron Keep Champion for most laps and Lord and Lady of the Keep for solo winners.

Event date is 5 September. Entries open 1 February and pre-registration is available. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
