Trail Running Calendar Scotland 2026-2027

With 127 trail races in Scotland lined up for the 2026-2027 season, there's a race for every level of runner. In Glasgow, take on the challenge of the city's lush parks, where the trails are as welcoming as the locals. Transition to the cobbled streets and ancient edifices of Edinburgh, where running is not just exercise but a communion with history, as you breeze past the iconic silhouette of Edinburgh Castle and Arthur's Seat, the city's very own mountain.

Heading northeast, Aberdeen's coastal trails offer a refreshing run with the North Sea as your companion, or venture into Dundee, where the revitalized waterfront serves as a picturesque starting line for a running experience filled with scenic views and a fresh, maritime air.

Just outside the hustle and bustle, Paisley presents a runner’s paradise with its undulating hills, a test of endurance. Lastly, East Kilbride calls to nature lovers with its tranquil woodland trails, where the peace and quiet of the forest canopy creates an idyllic backdrop for both the casual jogger and the competitive sprinter.

A 35 mile trail running event on the Kintyre Way from Tayinloan to Campbeltown on 9 May 2026. Waymarked route with GPS tracking, drop-bag service, finish showers and massage, with solo and relay entry options.

Join the Saltire Trail Races in Athelstaneford on Saturday 9 May 2026 for scenic 2 km, 5 km and 10 km farm trails at Kilduff Farm. Family friendly fun and village fair treats raise funds for Athelstaneford Primary School.

A 400 km, eight day stage race across the Scottish Highlands, starting in Fort William and finishing at Cape Wrath. The route crosses Knoydart, Kintail, Torridon, Assynt and Sutherland and runs through remote, varied terrain.

Community running event in Houston, Renfrewshire featuring 10K, 5K and kids runs on quiet lanes and footpaths. Chip on bib timing, medals for finishers, on day registration and post race refreshments.

A 79 mile, application only ultramarathon across the Isle of Skye with seven checkpoints, a 27 hour cut off and 100 places. Runners must self navigate, carry mandatory kit and follow checkpoint rules.

A long fell race on the Isle of Jura covering 28 km, seven summits and 2,370 m of ascent over technical terrain. Entry is limited to 250 runners and places are allocated by vetting and ballot.

Join Kirkhill 8 on 23 May 2026 for a scenic 4.3 mile trail loop in Kirkhill Forest that you can repeat over an eight hour window to chase distances from marathon to 50 miles. Limited to 100 places, this friendly, inclusive event fills fast.

A community 5k and 10k in Tomatin on rural, undulating roads supporting MND Scotland, with water stations, medals for finishers and trophies for fastest adult and child categories.

A weekend trail running festival at Blair Castle on 29 to 31 May 2026 with races from a kids run to a 58 km ultra. The programme includes camping, live music, talks, outdoor cinema, yoga and guided runs.

A mainly offroad walking event in Peebles with two route options: 27.6 miles (1,720 m ascent) or 16.4 miles (897 m ascent). Paths climb to high grassy ridges above the Tweed Valley; checkpoints are scheduled for walkers but runners may part..

Run the iconic West Highland Way, a 96 mile point to point ultra from Fort William to Milngavie across stunning Highland terrain. Choose the Ben Nevis variant to add a summit and extra miles for a tougher challenge.

A coastal 5 km out and back on West Sands in St Andrews with a companion 1 mile children’s fun run. Limited places are available and proceeds support RNLI and two local charities.

June 2026

Chase summer evenings in Edinburgh with the Sundowner 5K Series, a relaxed yet competitive run across three scenic city parks. Enjoy chip timed racing, lively warm ups and post race photos as you test your speed over 5K or the full series.

Experience the Ayrshire Coast Sunset Ultra, a 50 km beach and trail ultramarathon starting and finishing at Irvine Beach. Enjoy coastal views on a 25 km out and back route with aid stations and a finisher medal.

A 56 mile ultramarathon on the Southern Upland Way starting in St Johns Town of Dalry and finishing in Moffat with live GPS tracking, mandatory kit rules, checkpoint support and a 20 hour cut off.

A 104 mile ultramarathon on the Southern Upland Way from St Johns Town of Dalry to Galashiels covering 4611 m of ascent. The event has 250 places, a 38 hour cut off, mandatory kit and live GPS tracking.

Glen Lyon Ultra is a scenic 31 mile off road test in remote Perthshire with about 3500 ft of ascent and wet river crossings around Loch Lyon. Rugged trails and lochside camping make this a memorable challenge for adventurous trail runners.

Killearn 10k Trail on 6 June 2026 winds through village lanes, the historic pipe track and the foothills of Dumgoyne, starting and finishing in Killearn Public Park. Limited to 250 places and entries are now closed.

A ridge race from Flodigary to Storr Lochs covering about 27 km and 2000 m of ascent, run on an unmarked course with unmanned checkpoints, Category A entry requirements and mandatory kit checks under Scottish Hill Runners rules.

The Glen Lyon Trail Race on 7 June 2026 is a scenic 15.5 mile off road loop around Loch Lyon with 1,500 ft of climb and several river crossings. Limited to 150 runners, expect a tough but rewarding challenge with camping at Glen Lyon Dam.
