Meall a'Bhuachaille Hill Race 2026

The Meall a'Bhuachaille Hill Race is a single-day hill race organised by Highland Hill Runners at Badaguish Outdoor Centre near Aviemore on Saturday 26 September 2026. The course is 13 km with 720 m of climb and is licenced by Scottish Athletics; race insurance cover is provided by Scottish Hill Runners.

The route starts at Badaguish, follows a forest track onto the hill path to the summit of Meall a'Bhuachaille (810 m, CP1), descends to the bealach (CP2), then contours to a knoll on the south ridge of Creagan Gorm (CP3) before ascending to Creagan Gorm (732 m, CP4). From there the ridge leads to the final summit Craiggowrie (687 m, CP5). Runners must not ascend Creagan Gorm directly from the bealach. The descent is flagged and leads to a fast, often very boggy, heather descent into the forest and back to Badaguish. The route is primarily unmarked except for some junctions, the start of the final descent, and the final forest section. Hill marshals will staff designated checkpoints and a lower level alternative route may be used in bad weather.

All competitors must be aged 18 or over. Full waterproof body cover, hat, gloves, whistle, compass and map are mandatory and kit checks will take place. Maps are available for purchase at registration. Limited on-the-day entries may be available and a parking charge per car applies at Badaguish. Prize categories include open, female, junior 18-20, team prizes and age cohorts. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
