Trail Running calendar near Buttermere 2025-2026

Challenging trail ultra around Morland covering about 29 miles and 3,000 ft of climbing through Eden Valley and the edge of the Yorkshire Dales. Expect meadows, waterfalls, cairns and historic villages on largely off road, scenic terrain.

Run a muddy, hilly 5k through Hamsterley Forest with natural obstacles and a fun, small field vibe. Open to runners and dogs, entries capped at 50 and finishers get medals and photos.

Granny's Bay Challenge on 8 March 2026 in Lytham St Annes offers a scenic, flat 5.24 mile estuary loop. This 6 hour timed event lets you run as many laps as you like and earn an official time and medal after one lap; entries limited to 100.

Take on the Roddlesworth Roller, a scenic 9 km trail around lakes and through woods on good paths and roads. Held at Abbey Village on 8 March 2026, this friendly community race welcomes all ages and raises funds for the school PTA.

Take on the Carrock Fell Race in the Lake District on 8 March 2026, 9 km with 500 m climb over rugged terrain. Unmarked route demands map and compass skills and entry is on the day for a spur of the moment fell challenge.

Haworth Hobble is a classic March fell ultra across rugged moorland around Haworth and Hebden Bridge, offering a true off road challenge. Expect wintry, remote terrain, mandatory kit and navigation with no GPS but live trackers.

Punk Panther Welcome Way in Otley offers scenic but challenging trail routes along moorland, rivers and reservoirs, with distances from 13 to 50 miles. Rugged climbs, checkpoints and a finisher medal and T shirt await all finishers.

Enjoy stunning Lakeland scenery while tackling the classic Causey Pike fell race, 4.5 miles with 543 m of climb over rough terrain. Pre entry via SiEntries is required, full FRA kit is mandatory and minimum age is 16.

Join the Trotters 5 Mile Community Trail Run at Smithills Sports Centre in Bolton on 15 March 2026 for a friendly, chip timed five mile off road challenge. Entry limited to 300 runners so grab your spot and enjoy a community atmosphere.

Test yourself on Sun 15 Mar 2026 in the Lake District with a 15 km fell race from Muncaster Castle featuring 620 m of climb over rough, sometimes navigational terrain. Entry is cash only on the day, £5, teams welcome.

The Mount Karrin will take place in Sulby on Sunday 15 March 2026. You can run 9 miles.

Tackle the Link Challenge 2026, a 20 mile trail run or hike linking six charming villages around Bury, with scenic trails, checkpoints and a finisher neck gaiter. All proceeds support the Sunnywood Project youth and community work.

Jarrett's Jaunt is a Lake District fell race from Wath Brow Bridge, with rugged trails, steep climbs and great views. About 9 km with 440 m ascent, the handicap format gives a fun competitive test and pre entry is required.

Challenge yourself at Beater Clough on 21 Mar 2026 in the South West Pennines. This rugged 10.9 km fell race climbs 610 m and serves up big views. Open to 18 plus with pre entry, on the day and team entries welcome.

Run a scenic 20 kilometre trail around Buttermere and Crummock Water, with undulating lakeshore, woodland and technical sections on the western shore. Fully waymarked and ideal for trail runners seeking fresh fell scenery.

Tackle the Heptonstall Fell Race in West Yorkshire in March 2026, a tough 15.4 mile course with 966 m of ascent over moorland, bog and wooded valleys. Navigation skills and kit are essential and pre entry via SiEntries is required.

Take on the Pendle Mountain Rescue Dark Dash, a 9.2 km night fell run with 350 m climb around Barley in the Pennines. Run exposed terrain with a good head torch and map and help raise funds for Rossendale and Pendle Mountain Rescue.
