The Turbine Backyard Ultra : Saturday 19 September 2026

The Turbine Backyard Ultra is held at West Shields Farm, Satley, near Tow Law. The event follows the Backyard Ultra format: competitors must complete a 4.1-mile loop on the hour every hour until only one runner remains. A bell sounds on the hour and runners who are not at the start area before the bell will be disqualified.

The course is on private land and cannot be recceed before race day. Each loop has approximately 400 ft of elevation gain and consists of farmland, single-track trail, and woodland dirt tracks. The route is fully waymarked. Runners should wear clothing appropriate for the weather; a headtorch and spare batteries are advised for running into the night.

Facilities include a runners food station with drinking water, hot water, a toaster and a microwave. Crews may prepare basic food at the feed area. Food and drink will also be available to purchase from on-site vendors. GPS live tracking by Geo Tracker, toilets and on-site medical cover will be provided. Camping and parking are available from Friday 18 September 2026 for runners and their crew.

Entries are available for solo runners and five-person teams. All participants receive an eco memento of mixed wild flower seeds and a wooden DNF spoon. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.

An upland trail race from Muker to Tan Hill covering about 31.7 km with nearly 3,000 ft of ascent. The route follows Coast to Coast and Pennine Way sections, includes staffed aid stations, mandatory kit checks and a 200 runner limit.

A 15.5 km upland trail race in Muker on 4 July 2026, starting near Usha Gap Campsite. The route climbs Swinner Gill, descends Gunnerside Gill and follows the Pennine Way through riverside meadows.

A self navigated mountain trail event following about 37 miles of the Pennine Way between Bowlees and Alston YHA, featuring waterfalls, reservoirs and high tops including Crossfell. The event includes transfer bus and limited places.

Participate in a 9 km fell race through the Durham countryside north of Stanhope. This event is part of the North East Fell Running Championships and features a 300 m climb for runners aged 18 and over.
