Great Whernside is a Wharfedale Harriers fell race held near Kettlewell in the Yorkshire Dales. The course covers about 4 miles with a climb of 1,558 feet, starting in a field at Scabbate Gate and finishing at the summit of Great Whernside before returning. The route begins on grassy fields to Hag Dyke cottage, then continues onto rough fell terrain with a rocky scramble, peat bog, and a final steep ascent to the cairn, before descending across heather or along the path. Juniors start with the seniors but turn before the top. Free parking is provided in a nearby field with a short walk to the start; seniors pay £8 to enter.
