The La Sportiva Lake District Mountain Trial

The event takes place at Seathwaite Farm, Borrowdale, Keswick, Cumbria on 13 September 2026 and is organised by the Lake District Mountain Trial Association. It is run on orienteering principles and tests fellrunners' mountaineering ability, stamina and the safe and fast traverse of difficult and often dangerous terrain where navigational skills and route choice are as important as speed.

Courses include:

  • Classic: around 18 miles (29 km), minimum age 18.
  • Medium: around 13 miles (21 km), minimum age 18.
  • Short: about 9 miles (15 km), minimum age 18 or 14 if running in a pair.

Estimated climbs and winning times are given by the organiser for each course. Entrants will be vetted for experience; applicants should supply sufficient information to allow assessment. Entries open 3 April 2026 and close 31 August 2026. Pre-entry fee is £30 with a £1.50 discount for using an own SI card. Entry fee for those under 23 on race day is £5 with free loan of an SI card if required. Late entries may be possible subject to map availability with a £3 surcharge.

Hot food, map and dibber hire are included. Car parking is charged at £5 per car. Overnight camping is available at Seathwaite Farm Campsite. A mountain running event of about 40 miles in the Lake District, taking in Helvellyn, High Street and other summits. The figure of eight route has a 27 miles short option, is limited to 50 starters and requires full mountain kit.

Experience the Newlands Valley Horseshoe at this Category AL fell race near Keswick. Traverse 24.7 km of exposed peaks and over 2300 meters of elevation in the heart of the Lake District.

An 11.5 mile fell race around the Newlands fells on 18 April 2026, based at Newlands Adventure Centre in Keswick. Entry is limited to 500 and runners must carry mandatory mountain running kit with pre entry required.

Lakeside Relays is a charity relay at Haverthwaite Station near Ulverston, with mixed teams made on the day and all ages running together on a short 0.80 miles loop that gains about 60 feet.
