The La Sportiva Lake District Mountain Trial

The Lake District Mountain Trial is a navigational fell event run on orienteering principles at Seathwaite Farm, Borrowdale, Keswick, Cumbria. The event on 13 September 2026 tests mountaineering ability, stamina and the safe and fast traverse of difficult terrain where route choice and navigation are important.

Entrants are vetted for experience; applicants should supply sufficient information with their entry to allow assessment. Entries open 3 April 2026 and close 31 August 2026. Late entries may be possible subject to map availability with a £3 surcharge.

Courses

  • Classic - Around 18 miles and 7500 ft climb (29 km/2300 m)
  • Medium - Around 13 miles and 5000 ft climb (21 km/1500 m)
  • Short - Around 9 miles and 3500 ft climb (15 km/1100 m); pairs option

Minimum ages for single entries are 18 years for Classic and Medium. Short is 18 years, or 14 if running in a pair with a runner aged 21 or over. The estimated winning times are given for planning but individual times will vary.

Pre-entry fee is £30 with a £1.50 discount for use of an owned SI card. Entry fee for anyone under 23 on the race day is £5 with free loan of an SI card if required. Hot food, map and dibber hire are included. A car parking fee of £5 per car applies. Overnight camping is available at Seathwaite Farm Campsite. OMM Lite in Grasmere is a map based navigation event over one or two days where solo runners or teams locate numbered checkpoints to score points, with timing chips, live tracking, bespoke maps and a post event hot meal included.

Two category A fell races around the head of the Duddon Valley presenting long and short mountain courses with significant ascent. Strong navigation skills and full mountain kit are required.

A 10 mile fell race in the Lake District with about 3000 feet of climb over Dow and Caw. It is a category A event that requires navigational skill, proper kit and experience on rough mountain terrain.

A weekend of off-road running in Grasmere featuring the OMM Lite Trail Quest, the Grasmere 24 hour ultra and a range of trail races, family events, camping, parking and workshops.
