The La Sportiva Lake District Mountain Trial
The event is a mountain trial held at Seathwaite Farm, Borrowdale, Keswick, Cumbria on 13 September 2026. It is run on orienteering principles and tests mountaineering ability, stamina, navigation and route choice over difficult terrain. The event is the longest established event of its kind in Great Britain.
Entrants are vetted for experience; competitors must provide sufficient information with their entry to allow assessment of experience.
Courses include:
- Classic Trial: around 18 miles, 7500 ft climb (29 km / 2300 m)
- Medium Trial: around 13 miles, 5000 ft climb (21 km / 1500 m)
- Short Trial: around 9 miles, 3500 ft climb (15 km / 1100 m) with pairs option
Age and entry details: Classic and Medium minimum age 18 years. Short minimum age 18 years, or 14 years if running in a pair with a runner aged 21 years or over. Entries open 3 April 2026 and close 31 August 2026. The pre entry fee is £30 with a reduced fee of £5 for competitors under 23 on the day. A small discount applies for use of a personal SI card.
Hot food, map and dibber hire are included. Car parking is charged at £5 per car. Overnight camping is available at Seathwaite Farm Campsite. The organiser is the Lake District Mountain Trial Association. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
