The La Sportiva Lake District Mountain Trial : 13 September 2026
The event is a long-established fellrunning trial held at Seathwaite Farm, Borrowdale, Keswick, Cumbria. It tests mountaineering ability, stamina and the safe and fast traverse of difficult and often dangerous terrain, where navigational skills and route choice are as important as speed. It is run on orienteering principles and is described as the longest established event of its kind in Great Britain.
Entrants are vetted for experience; the organisers ask for sufficient information with entries to allow assessment of competence. Pre-entry is required within the published entry period, and late entries may be accepted subject to map availability with a surcharge.
There are three courses:
- Classic: around 18 miles, 7500 ft climb (29 km / 2300 m).
- Medium: around 13 miles, 5000 ft climb (21 km / 1500 m).
- Short: around 9 miles, 3500 ft climb (15 km / 1100 m). Pairs option available.
Age and entry rules vary by course. Minimum ages are set for each course; the Short course allows 14 year olds only when paired with a runner aged 21 or over. The entry fee structure includes a senior fee and a reduced fee for competitors under 23, with an option to use or borrow timing equipment. Hot food, a map and dibber hire are included. A car parking fee applies and overnight camping is available at Seathwaite Farm Campsite. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
