The La Sportiva Lake District Mountain Trial is an annual mountain navigation race held in the Lake District in mid-September. The 2026 event is scheduled for Sunday 13 September 2026; the venue is to be confirmed. The event is run under Fell Runners Association rules and is described as a classic mountain navigation race over difficult mountain terrain. Applicants are vetted for fell-running experience because of the severity of the courses.

Race format and entry

Three courses are offered with approximate straight-line distances and climbs:

  • Classic: 29 km / 2300 m
  • Medium: 21 km / 1500 m
  • Short: 15 km / 1100 m

There is a pairs category on the Short course. Minimum age for single runners is 18. Over-14s may compete in a pair on the Short course when accompanied by an adult.

Pre-entry is required; entry on the day is not available. The standard pre-entry fee is £30.00, with a £1.50 discount for competitors who use their own SportIdent (SI) card. Hot food, a pre-marked waterproof map and dibber (SI) hire are included in the entry fee. Electronic punching and scoring use the SportIdent system.
