Two Turtle Doves - Totley AC
Two Turtle Doves is a Boxing Day fell race that starts from the Totley Athletics Club pavilion by the Cricket Inn, Lane Head Road, S17. Entry is charged at £8 and all proceeds go to S6 foodbank and Edale Mountain Rescue. Facilities at the venue include toilets, showers, a pub and limited parking.
The course is 7.8 km with 270 metres of ascent and is classified as a British Snowdon (BS) category race. It begins with a lap of the cricket pitch and continues via Strawberry Lee Lane with a short steep climb, a river crossing at stepping stones, the Devil’s Elbow, and an uphill section to the top tip of Blacka Moor Woods. Runners follow a rough bridleway down into a sheep field, cross pasture, tackle a likely muddy final climb, then run a long flat section over Totley Moor before descending towards the finish. The 2024 finish route now descends Strawberry Lee Lane and includes a loop of the field.
The route runs entirely on public rights of way and is partially marked; flags must be followed. Due to the time of year, runners must carry full FRA best-practice kit as specified by the race organiser (waterproof whole-body cover with taped seams and attached hood, hat, gloves, map, compass, whistle, emergency food). The race is for entrants aged 18 and over; numbers must be worn visibly and may be checked. Dogs are not permitted on the course. Car parking is limited and marshals will assist; do not park in the Cricket Inn car park on Penny Lane. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
