Two Turtle Doves
Two Turtle Doves is a Boxing Day fell race based at the Totley Athletics Club pavilion by the Cricket Inn, Lane Head Road, S17. Entry costs £8 and all proceeds go to S6 foodbank and Edale Mountain Rescue. Facilities at the venue include toilets, showers, a pub and limited parking.
The route is 7.8 km with 270 metres of ascent and is classified as a BS category race. The course is entirely on public rights of way and is partially marked with flags that must be followed. The route includes a lap of the cricket pitch, a short steep climb and descent to a stepping stones river crossing, a longer climb to the Devil's Elbow, woodland sections on Blacka Moor, a sheep field, a muddy final climb, and a flat section over Totley Moor before the finish. A 2024 change finishes with a descent of Strawberry Lee Lane followed by a loop of the field.
Due to the time of year runners must carry full FRA Best Practice kit, for example waterproof whole body cover with taped seams and attached hood, hat, gloves, map, compass, whistle and emergency food. The organiser may reduce the required kit if conditions allow. Mandatory kit inspections may be performed and failure to carry required kit can result in disqualification.
The event is open to those aged 18 and over. Race numbers must be worn visibly on the chest and may be recorded at checkpoints; failure to show a number can lead to disqualification. Parking is limited and marshals will direct vehicles. Runners retiring from the race must inform Race Control by reporting at a checkpoint or contacting race control directly. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
