Trails of Mena

The Trails of Mena is a trail running event located in the hills and valleys on the eastern fringes of the Peak District in Derbyshire. The race follows an anti-clockwise circular route that combines various terrain types, including tracks, maintained trails, fields, and woodland sections. The course features an undulating profile with several ascents and descents throughout the landscape.

Participants can choose between two race distances:

  • 26 miles (Marathon)
  • 20 miles

The course is lightly marked with arrows at major junctions. Runners also have access to GPX files to assist with navigation. The route begins near the North Wingfield Community Resource Centre and utilizes the 5 Pits Trail. It passes through areas such as Pilsley, Tibshelf, Teversal, and Rowthorne. While the race skirts the woodland surrounding Hardwick Hall and Sutton Springs Wood, it does not enter the Hardwick grounds. The final section crosses the M1 and farmland at Sutton Scarsdale before returning to the finish line via the 5 Pits Trail.

There is a 7-hour time limit for the event. Support includes checkpoints with food and drinks; there are two checkpoints for the 20 mile route and three for the marathon. Medical cover is stationed at both the race headquarters and out on the course. Every finisher receives a medal, and prizes are awarded to the first male and female finishers in each distance. A donation from the event is made to Spaniel Aid UK. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
