Denby Dash

Denby Dash is an annual community running event held on the August Bank Holiday Monday; the 10th anniversary edition takes place on 31 August 2026. The event is organised around Upper Denby and the surrounding countryside, with races starting and finishing at The George Inn.

The event programme includes:

  • 5.6 miles (9 km) senior race on scenic, undulating footpaths
  • 1 mile (2 km) Denby Gallop for children up to 8 years
  • 2 miles (3 km) Pirate Ship Challenge for children aged 9 to 16 years

The senior course runs on footpaths through fields, woodland, conservation land and the historic Quaker Village at High Flatts, with a total ascent of 700 ft. The senior route is marshalled and well marked. Junior courses use tracks and fields and include a steep 140 ft climb on the Denby Gallop and a 240 ft climb on the Pirate Ship Challenge. Junior and senior finishers receive food or medals as noted by organisers.

Entry is by online pre-entry for senior and junior races, with stated entry fees and minimum age for the senior race. Children may enter on the day for junior races. Women only 50 km ultramarathon around Hebden Bridge with about 1400 m ascent, four vegan friendly checkpoints and a 10 hour cutoff at checkpoint 4.

A trail event around Hartington in the Peak District offering two scenic routes of about 26 miles and 15 miles, with checkpoints, aid stations, mandatory navigation kit and a village event base.

A 24 mile walk or run around Calderdale from Heath Rugby Club near Halifax, with checkpoints, refreshments, a finishers certificate and a meal; bring your own mug.

Round Hill Fell Race is an 8.7 mile run across Blubberhouses Moor with about 1,100 ft of ascent, visiting Round Hill and Ellar Carr Pike. Entry is on the day for runners aged 18 and over and full FRA kit is required.
