Denby Dash Junior Races 2026

The Denby Dash Junior Races take place on Monday 31 August 2026 in Upper Denby, Huddersfield. The event is organised by Denby Village Conservation Group and is staged from The George Inn, Upper Denby. Entry fee is £4.00 for each junior race. The event has an overall entry limit of 100 and is not suitable for wheelchairs.

  • 2 miles Pirate Ship Challenge

The Denby Gallop is for children up to 8 years old; children under 6 must be accompanied by an adult. It is a one mile scenic loop on tracks and fields that includes a steep 140 ft climb followed by a fast return section. The Pirate Ship Challenge is for children aged 9 to 16 years. It is a two mile course across fields and conservation land with a 240 ft climb up to the pirate ship area and a quick return route.

Race routes are marked and well marshalled. Medals are awarded to the first, second and third girl and boy in each race, with additional category medals including first U6 in the Denby Gallop and first U10, U12, U14 and U16 in the Pirate Ship Challenge. A prize is given for best fancy dress. Ice cream for junior finishers is provided by Yummy Yorkshire. Live music and refreshment stalls are located at The George Inn. Pre-entries close on Saturday 29 August 2026; juniors may also enter on the day. Toilets and water are available at race headquarters; there are no showers, changing facilities or baggage storage. A 9.7 km fell race in the Peak District with 247 m of climb, starting by the former village store in Peak Forest. On day registration is at the Reading Room and free parking is available.

A point-to-point trail run from Bury to Rawtenstall alongside the East Lancashire Railway and the River Irwell. Runners try to keep pace with a steam train while supporters can ride the train; finishers receive a medal and T-shirt.

Trunce 6 in Oxspring on Mon 13 Jul 2026 is a testing 6.2 km Peak District race with about 190 m of climb from Oxspring Playing Field, main race for 16 and over. Enter on the day for £3 and juniors over 10 can run a 3 km race for £1.

A summertime off road race of about 5 miles along the River Mersey in Sale, organised by Dragons Running Club. The event uses chip timing, provides finish mementos and shares profits with local charities.
