The Dovedale Dipper

Overview
The Dovedale Dipper is a trail running and challenge walking event in the Peak District National Park, based in Hartington village, Derbyshire. The event uses two waymarked routes that explore the Dove and Manifold valleys and parts of the Derbyshire-Staffordshire border. Craggrunner will lead organisation of the 2026 edition, which takes place on Saturday 1 August 2026.

- 26 miles - Big Dipper (described as comfortably a marathon distance, closer to 27 miles)
- 15 miles - Little Dipper
Entries and inclusions
Entries open early in the year and close a few days before the event or when sold out; limited late entries may be available on the day with a supplement. Entry includes full results, an option for a finisher certificate, an event guide, detailed route description and GPX files, refreshments at aid stations, a hot meal at the finish, professional medical support, and an option to purchase a technical event t-shirt.
Location and logistics
Event HQ is Hartington Village Hall, Hide Lane, Hartington (no parking at the venue). Event parking is provided on the eastern side of the village about 400 metres from HQ; parking passes must be displayed and are sold as an extra when signing up, with a limited number available on the day.
Navigation, safety and rules
Participants are responsible for route finding; no course way-marking will be provided. Printed maps are required (1:25k preferred, 1:50k minimum). Mandatory kit includes a whistle, emergency bivi bag or space blanket, compass, maps, suitable clothing and footwear, waterproof jacket with hood and taped seams, at least 400 calories emergency food, at least 0.5 litre carrying capacity for fluids, and a fully charged mobile phone. Strict intermediate checkpoint cut-offs and an overall finish deadline apply. Participants must be at least 18 years old. Dogs are not permitted; trekking poles are allowed. Prizes are awarded to the first three men and women on each course and winners in veteran categories where applicable. The event operates under UK Athletics rules with a TRA permit.
