Route and logistics

The route begins at Rhyd-y-benwch picnic area and initially climbs to the source of the River Severn via a near four-mile mountain trek up Plynlimon. The mountain terrain includes concealed bogs so competitors are advised to keep to designated routes. From the source the course follows the river path back toward the original area where the first checkpoint is located. There are two checkpoints on course.

Entrants are responsible for their own travel arrangements to the start and from the finish. What3words locations are provided for the start/CP1, CP2 and finish. Nearby rail stations are noted for travel planning.

Entries, aid and rules

Standard solo entry is £80. All payments are non-refundable. Checkpoints provide food with vegan and gluten-free options; competitors may also supply labelled food bags for checkpoints. Competitors must carry mandatory kit including a backpack, OS Map 150 (or downloadable map), compass or GPS, whistle, mobile phone and basic first aid. A minimum average pace of 4.0 mph is required; falling below this may result in removal from the race. All entrants must be aged 20 or over on race day.
