The MTC Hafren Ultra

The MTC Hafren Ultra is an ultra marathon and Day 1 of the MTC Severn Challenge. The race is point to point and covers 27 miles with 872 m of ascent and 1,069 m of descent. The course includes a near four mile mountain approach up Plynlimon to reach the source of the River Severn, followed by a return along the river path to the finish at the Mid Wales Arts Centre in Caersws.

There are two staffed checkpoints on the route. Checkpoint food and drink are provided, with options for Vegan and Gluten Free selected at registration; competitors may supply and label their own special food for checkpoint collection if required. The event is cup-free and participants should use a reusable cup. GPX files are recommended for navigation as sections of the Severn Path can be overgrown and signs may be covered.

Entrants must meet entry conditions, including a minimum age requirement of 20 years on race day and payment of the non-refundable entry fee of £80. The race enforces a minimum average pace of 4.0 miles per hour and associated checkpoint closing rules; competitors who fall below the required pace will be withdrawn. A mandatory kit list is enforced and may be checked at registration; required items include a backpack, Ordnance Survey Map 150 (downloadable maps accepted), compass or GPS, whistle, mobile phone and a basic first aid kit.

All finishers receive a bespoke Hafren Ultra finishers medal and a MTC head visor. The first male and female finishers receive bespoke Hafren Ultra trophies. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
