Event Overview

The MTC Hafren Ultra is a 27-mile point-to-point ultra marathon that also serves as Day 1 of the MTC Severn Challenge. The entry fee is £80. All finishers receive a bespoke medal, a technical t-shirt, and a head visor.

The Route

The course begins at Rhyd-y-benwch picnic area with an initial four-mile trek up Plynlimon mountain in Wales. The terrain on this section includes bogs. From the source of the River Severn, runners follow Britain's longest river path back to the start (now Checkpoint 1) and continue to the finish at the Mid Wales Arts Centre. The route has an ascent of 872 meters and a descent of 1,069 meters.

Checkpoints and Services

There are two checkpoints providing food and drink. Vegan and gluten-free food options are available if selected during registration. The event is cup-free, so participants must bring their own reusable cup.

Participation and Logistics

Entrants must be 20 years or older. The race is point-to-point, and competitors are responsible for their own travel to the start and from the finish. A mandatory kit list includes a backpack, map or GPS, compass, whistle, mobile phone, and basic first aid kit.

Race Details

A minimum pace of 4 mph must be maintained, with enforced cut-off times at the checkpoints. The first male and female finishers each receive a bespoke trophy. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
