Route and logistics

The route starts at Rhyd-y-benwch picnic area and finishes at Mid Wales Arts Centre, Maesmawr, Caersws, Newtown SY17 5SB. The start passes through a near four mile mountain trek up Plynlimon to the source of the River Severn, then follows the river path back to the start area now designated CP1. The route includes significant altitude change - a reported drop of 1,600 ft from the source - and areas of potentially overgrown path where use of GPX files is recommended. Checkpoints, kit and rules

There are two checkpoints with food options marked Vegan or Gluten Free. The event is cup-free; participants must bring a reusable cup. Entrants must carry mandatory kit including a backpack, OS Map 150 (downloadable maps accepted), compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone and basic first aid kit. A minimum average speed of 4.0 mph is required and participants below this may be removed from the race. Entrants must be 20 years or over. Entry fee is £80 and payments are non refundable.
