Route, services and rules
The route begins with a near four mile mountain trek up Plynlimon and then follows the Severn river path back toward the start area. Competitors are advised to keep to designated routes because of boggy ground. The course includes an altitude drop of about 1,600 ft from the river source and passes through open, largely unchanged scenery.
There are two staffed check points with food and drink; vegan and gluten free options can be selected at registration. The event is cup-free, so competitors must bring a reusable cup. Entrants must meet a minimum pace of 4.0 mph and carry mandatory kit including a backpack, Ordnance Survey Map 150, compass or GPS, whistle, mobile phone and a basic first aid kit. Entry is non-refundable; a deferral option is available for a fee up to four weeks before the event. GPX route files are provided and recommended for navigation.
