The 63rd Across Wales Walk

The event is a linear walk or run of 45 miles along a route from the English border at Anchor Bridge near Clun to the Welsh coast at Clarach Bay near Aberystwyth. The route includes Plynlimon, the highest point in the Cambrian Mountains at 2467 ft, and uses paths, tracks, unclassified roads and open country. Typical surfaces include tarmac, rough track, forest, farmland, open moorland and bog.

Participants have an 18 hour time limit; average completion is around 14 hours. The event is open to walkers and runners. Entrants under 18 must provide a parent or guardian declaration and be accompanied throughout by an adult nominated at entry, with a maximum of two under-18s per nominated adult. If the nominated adult retires, the under-18 must also retire unless another participant accepts responsibility in writing.

Entry includes a packaged weekend arrangement: basic accommodation in Clun prior to the event, coach transport to the start, route refreshments and support, transfer of an overnight bag to Aberystwyth, transport from the finish to Aberystwyth University, shared accommodation at the university on Saturday night, breakfast on Sunday and coach transport back to Clun. Participants are advised to have recently completed a one day challenge walk of at least 30 miles over similar terrain and to be able to navigate with map and compass in poor weather and darkness.
