Tour des Marches Challenge Walk

The Tour des Marches Challenge Walk is a one-day walking event on 12 September 2026 based at Wistanstow Village Hall. Routes run through southwest Shropshire and visit Clun and Bishop's Castle. Much of the walking takes place inside the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Distances offered:

  • 12 miles Wistanstow to Clun
  • 18 miles Wistanstow to Bishop's Castle
  • 26 miles full circuit from Wistanstow

The course is undulating and uses rural paths and lanes. Checkpoints provide snacks and drinks along the route and toilets are available at two main checkpoints. Entry fee includes a snack breakfast and a hot meal at the finish, with a vegetarian and vegan option; participants are asked to bring a mug. Maps and a detailed route description are provided, and certificates and a finishers list are issued. Support and transport are available for retirees and for those on the 12 and 18 mile routes. Runners are welcome.

Entry is limited to 150 places and the event is often oversubscribed; a waiting list is used for further entries. Minimum age is 14, and under 18s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Participants should carry equipment appropriate to the distance and weather. Dogs are not permitted. The event has raised over £22,000 for local causes and the Firefighters Charity.
