Course and race logistics
Course characteristics and marking differ by distance. The 50-mile course lists about 9,000 feet of total ascent/descent and uses flour arrows with pink ribbon and pink arrows. The 50K lists about 5,500 feet of ascent/descent and uses flour arrows with blue ribbon and blue arrows. The trail half-marathon lists about 1,800 feet of ascent/descent and is marked with orange ribbon and red arrows. Steep sections up to about 15 percent grade are noted. The 50-mile route includes a 7.1-mile loop known as "Jimmy's Loop" near the Peavine aid station, with roughly 1,800 feet of ascent on that loop.
Runners must check in before their race and there are mandatory time cutoffs for the 50M and 50K (durations provided by the organizer). Aid stations provide water, ice, electrolytes (Gu Roctane), carbonated water, soft drinks, and a variety of foods; some stations offer quesadillas. The event is cupless, allows the use of poles, and runs on multi-use trails. Drop bags are returned to the start/finish area after the Peavine aid station closes. Awards are given to overall men’s and women’s winners and first-place age-group finishers across defined divisions. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
