Rattlesnake Mountain Challenge

The Rattlesnake Mountain Challenge is a trail running event at Huffaker Hills and Rattlesnake Mountain in Reno, Nevada, held on December 26, 2026. The course is entirely on trail and includes an in-person 5k and a virtual 5k option.

Race registration includes a long sleeve performance shirt. The event is sanctioned by USA Track and Field and will be officially timed, with results posted online after the race. Emergency medical services will be provided by REMSA.

Packet pickup takes place at the Huffaker Hills Trailhead at 4400 Alexander Lake Road on Friday, December 25 from 2:00 to 5:00 pm and Saturday, December 26 from 7:00 to 8:30 am.

Parking at the Huffaker Hills Trailhead is limited. Once on-site parking is full, volunteers will direct participants to park at the Longley Town Center parking lot at 5260 Longley Lane. A shuttle service will run from that lot to the starting area using a 15 passenger van; the shuttle departs every 15 minutes or when the van is full.

The event serves as a fundraiser for the Azteca FC youth cross country and track program to support athletes who qualify for national competition. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.

Trail runs nearby

A 5K or 10K trail event on July 4 that starts at North Tahoe Regional Park and finishes on Tahoe Vista Recreation Area Beach. Courses pass through pine forest and single track trails with post-race beach activities.

A multi-distance trail endurance event on the Tahoe Rim Trail held July 18-19, 2026, offering 23K, 50K, 100K and 100 Mile options. The races are ITRA qualifiers with published time cutoffs and support local trail and community programs.

Trail races based at Spooner Lake in Lake Tahoe Nevada State Park. The Marlette 50K covers about 30 miles of Sierra single track with Marlette Lake at mid course while the 10 Miler is a round trip to Marlette Lake.

A community run in Tahoe Vista with a 5K and a 1 mile fun run across grass fields, paved bike paths and park trails. Parking and a participant hat are included, and proceeds support a park nonprofit.
