Rattlesnake Mountain Challenge

The Rattlesnake Mountain Challenge is a trail running event held on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at Huffaker Hills Trailhead, 4400 Alexander Lake Road, Reno, NV 89502. The event includes the following distances:

  • 5k
  • Virtual 5k

Registration fees listed are $40 for the 5k and $35 for the virtual 5k. A performance long sleeve shirt is included with race registration. Youth and adult athletes aged 5 and up are welcome to participate. The event is a fundraiser for the Azteca FC youth cross country and track program. In July 2025, athletes from Azteca FC represented the club at the Junior Olympics in Savannah, Georgia.

Course, timing and safety

The course is entirely on trail through Rattlesnake Mountain and the Huffaker hills. The 2025 course layout includes one up-and-down section followed by two loops at the bottom of the Huffaker hill trailhead. The race is recognized and sanctioned by USA Track and Field.
