About the Event

The Tahoe Rim Trail Endurance Runs are multi-distance trail races. All races start and finish in Carson City, Nevada. The courses are on single-track trails and dirt roads, offering views of Lake Tahoe and the Great Basin valleys. Many miles are run on the Tahoe Rim Trail within the Spooner backcountry of Lake Tahoe Nevada State Park and on Toiyabe National Forest land. The event is organized by an all-volunteer staff.

Distances

The event offers four distances:

  • 100 miles with approximately 20,000 feet of elevation gain.
  • 100K
  • 50K
  • 23K, which is an out-and-back to the final aid station on the main course.

Course & Requirements

The 100-mile course is described as demanding, with the final 17 miles requiring a minimum of 2 liters of fluids. There is Live GPS tracking for the 100-mile, 100K, and 50K races, but not for the 23K.

The 100-mile event has specific qualification standards. Runners must have completed, between July 1, 2023 and their registration date, one of the following:

  • A 50-mile race in under 15 hours (or the TRTER 56-Miler in under 18 hours).
  • A 100-kilometer race in under 22 hours.
  • Any official 100-mile trail race.

All 100-mile entrants must also complete 8 hours of volunteer trail work between July 1, 2025 and July 1, 2026. There are no qualification requirements for the 100K or 50K distances.

The 100-mile and 100K races are certified Western States 100 qualifiers. The 100-mile requires an official finish within a 36-hour cutoff. The 100K requires a finish within 20 hours for the Western States qualification, though the official race cutoff is 24 hours. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
