The Great Ski Race 2027
The Great Ski Race is a fundraising nordic ski event held at the Tahoe Cross Country Center in Tahoe City, California. The event supports Tahoe Nordic Search & Rescue, with race proceeds used to purchase equipment and to support winter survival and avalanche education programs.
There are two loop course options that both start and finish at the Tahoe Cross Country Center:
- 26 km route around Mt. Watson with varied terrain and vistas of north Lake Tahoe
- 10 km route on undulating trails of the Tahoe Cross Country Center
Both distances feature varied terrain and are followed by a finish line party with food and live music. A Tour Wave option lets participants ski the 26 km course at a noncompetitive pace; it is untimed, has no posted online race results, and is limited to the first 35 participants. Tour Wave skiers must self-start at TXC and are expected to know the course and yield to faster racers.
Registration is open in tiered windows with increasing fees and applies equally to both distances, with separate pricing for adults and those under 18. Registration is capped at 800 participants. Early bib and T shirt pickup is available on Friday and Saturday before the event; race day bib pickup is also offered. Awards are presented for overall men and women as well as for age groups ranging from 9 and under up through adult decades. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
