Route, support and kit

The route replicates the Hardmoors 55 from Scarth Nick, through Osmotherley, up to Square Corner (a checkpoint with snacks and drinks), then follows the Cleveland Way and Hardmoors 55 route to Helmsley. There is a water refill point at Sneck Yate and a further checkpoint at White Horse with water and refreshments. The route includes ascents at Black Hambleton and White Horse.

Participants will be divided into groups led by experienced run leaders with sweepers for support. The organisers note winter conditions can include cold, wet underfoot areas and some snow and ice. Mandatory kit includes waterproof jacket and trousers, hat and gloves plus spare gloves, long running bottoms if not worn, at least 500 ml fluid, spare food, head torch with batteries, spare insulating top, emergency bivvy and foil blanket, whistle/compass, map OL26 or equivalent, fully charged mobile phone and a soft cup.
