Let's Run Adventures - Hardmoors 55 Recce

Osmotherley, United Kingdom • 17 Jan 2026

Event overview

The Let's Run Adventures Hardmoors 55 Recce is scheduled for 17 January 2026. It is an organised recce of part of the Hardmoors 55 route, running from Cod Beck large car park just outside Osmotherley, North Yorkshire, to Helmsley. The route covers the sections with ascents at Black Hambleton and White Horse. The distance is around 25 miles. The event is not a race; participants are divided into groups led by experienced run leaders with sweepers.

Route, aid and support

The route replicates the Hardmoors 55 line from Scarth Nick through Osmotherley to Square Corner, then follows the Cleveland Way and Hardmoors 55 route to Helmsley. There will be a checkpoint at Square Corner with snacks and drinks, a water refill point at Sneck Yate, and a further checkpoint at White Horse with water and refreshments. On arrival in Helmsley, soup and hot drinks will be available.

Entries, transport and kit

Entries open 27 January 2025 and close 10 January 2026. Entry fee is £30. Entries so far total 25 and maximum entries are 60. A shuttle bus runs from the Cleveland Way carpark in Helmsley for those who wish to leave cars at the finish; the bus costs £12 per person. Mandatory kit is required and includes waterproof jacket and trousers, hat and gloves, spare food and fluid (at least 500 ml), head torch with batteries, spare insulating layer, emergency bivvy and foil blanket, whistle, map OL26 or equivalent, fully charged mobile phone and a soft cup. The organisers recommend OS Locate and What3Words apps. Last year conditions included cold, wet underfoot sections and some snow and ice on the moors.
