Othnesbery's Revenge Half Marathon
SilverBackTrails Othnesbery's Revenge is a trail half marathon held in the North York Moors National Park. The course is circa 13.1 miles and runs over forest tracks, heather-clad moorland and includes an ascent of Roseberry Topping, also referred to as Othnesbery. Early mapping records described the hill as a mountain. The route contains some steep ascents and descents and includes a notable final feature at Odin's Seat.
The event has a five hour cut off and places are limited to 50 participants. All finishers receive a bespoke medal and a certificate that features a prominent part of the route. There will be a checkpoint on course offering water, fizzy drinks and snacks, with the same provisions at the finish. Navigation is aided by marshals and course flags; entrants receive a GPX file and a master route map is available at registration.
Entrants must be 16 or older on the day. Mandatory kit requirements are checked and may be spot-checked on route; required items include a waterproof jacket with taped seams unless specified, hat or buff or gloves, an emergency bivvy, a charged mobile phone with mapping apps ideally installed, at least 500 ml of fluid, at least 120 g of emergency food, a working compass and an OS Explorer 26 or Harvey's North Yorkshire Moors map. There are no entries on the day and transfers are permitted up to one week before the event. Parking is in the car park below Roseberry Topping and charges apply to participants. An event specific technical T shirt is available for purchase for £18. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
