The race covers approximately 2 miles (3.2 km) with a climb of 700 feet (220 meters). The challenging course starts in the fields, ascends a narrow bracken-lined track, crosses a road, and climbs the rough fellside to Fremington Edge, marked by a summit flag. Runners then traverse slightly along the ridge, descend through old quarry workings, rejoin the road, and finish with a final sprint through fields back to the showfield, completing a circuit of the ring. The event features multiple age categories, including a new under-9 race introduced in 2024, and serves as a BOFRA Championship counter.
