Course and categories

The route starts across fields, then follows a narrow track through bracken before crossing a road and climbing the rough fellside to Fremington Edge, with the summit usually marked by a flag. Runners continue along the ridge, descend through old quarry workings, rejoin the road, run through fields back to the showfield and complete a circuit of the ring to finish. Separate senior and junior routes are used. The course is listed as 2.00 miles / 3.20 km with 700 feet / 220 meters of climb. Age categories are Under 9, Under 12, Under 14, Under 17 and Seniors.
