Kinloss Running Festival

Kinloss Running Festival takes place within Kinloss Barracks Training Area on the Moray coast in Scotland. The event uses runways, taxiways, perimeter roads and nearby trails, with routes starting and finishing at the Race Village. Distances on offer include:

  • Back Yard Ultra 4.1 mile loop, run hourly until one runner remains
  • Ray Hughes Half Marathon 13.1 mile out and back
  • 10K loop using runway and perimeter road
  • 5K loop using runway and taxiways
  • 1K Fun Run taxiway loop next to the Race Village

Most road race surfaces are tarmac or concrete and elevation is minimal across routes (<20 m). The Back Yard Ultra day loop is approximately 80% off road with grass, gravel and sand; the night loop is entirely on road and runway. GPX files for all routes will be uploaded prior to the event.

The Race Village provides registration, bag drop, toilets, first aid and sheltered areas; catering is available on the main race day. Aid stations supplying water will support the 5K, 10K and Half Marathon. BYU entrants are expected to be largely self sufficient but have access to a small communal aid point in the Race Village.

Security measures reflect the military location: entry is via Crash Gate 1 on Findhorn Road, photographic ID is required for anyone aged 14 or over and vehicle details may be recorded. Parking is in a central area next to the Race Village with a charity donation fee per vehicle. Results will be published as official results with chip timings after the event. A 100 mile ultra starting and finishing in Forres, the Moray Way 100 follows the Moray Coastal Trail, Speyside Way and Dava Way through beaches, forests and clifftop paths. Entries are limited and the race has a 30 hour cutoff.

Teams of up to four share the full Moray Way route of about 100 miles, split into 12 legs with checkpoint handovers. Runners must be over 16, each must run at least three legs, and some sections may include night running.

A 170 miles foot race from Glasgow to Inverness along the West Highland Way and the Great Glen Way with about 24,000 ft of ascent. Entry is restricted to runners with prior ultra experience and the route uses tracked, marshalled checkpoints..

Two race options along the Speyside Way on 15 August 2026: a 50 km from Tamdhu Distillery to Buckie and a 100 km from Aviemore joining the 50 km route, with route GPX files and a handbook provided beforehand.
