The Grayson Highlands trail races take place May 2-3, 2026 at Grayson Highlands State Park in Mouth of Wilson, Virginia. The event offers multiple trail distances over mountain terrain and includes packet pickup on the Friday before the race from 4-8 PM; pre-race packet pickup on race morning is also available. The event supports the state park, a local rescue squad, and a friends group.

Distances and cutoffs

  • 50 Mile - up to 9,500 ft climbing; 16 hour cutoff
  • 50K - up to 5,000 ft climbing; 10.5 hour cutoff
  • 25K - 3,000 ft climbing; 6 hour cutoff
  • 8 Mile - up to 1,400 ft climbing; 4 hour cutoff

Awards, swag, and volunteers

Awards are given to the top three male and female finishers in each race. All finishers receive a beanie or hat and a finisher medal; post-race food and professional race photos are provided. Volunteers are offered free entries as a thank-you.

Registration and refund policy

Registration is open for the May 2026 event and closes Friday, May 1 at 11:59 PM ET. Early and regular pricing tiers are listed by the organizer. Within 90 days of the event there are no refunds, bib transfers, or deferments. Before 90 days, entrants may receive half credit toward another Run Bum Race of equal or lesser value, valid for one year. Course and race details are subject to change. Run the Froggy Mountain Sweet Sixteen 50K in Galax, Virginia on April 18, 2026. Tackle 1 mile loops with about 500 feet gain per loop and a 16 hour cutoff, while enjoying aid stations, hot meals and free camping.
