Grayson Highlands trail event

This event takes place at Grayson Highlands State Park in Virginia on May 1 to 2, 2027. It offers multiple trail distances that run through mountain terrain with notable views and wild ponies present on the route.

The course options include variations in distance and climbing. The longest distance lists 7,500 feet of climbing; shorter distances have lower total elevation gain. Each distance has a published cutoff time. Event materials include maps, aid station breakdowns, and a runner handbook with rules and frequently asked questions.

  • 50M 7,500 ft climbing with a 16.5 hour cutoff
  • 50K 4,500 ft climbing with an 11 hour cutoff
  • 25k 2,500 ft climbing with a 6 hour cutoff
  • 8 Mile 1,400 ft climbing with a 4 hour cutoff

Trail runs nearby

Trail races at Doe Mountain Recreation Area near Mountain City Tennessee offering 50K, 25K and 13K courses with substantial elevation gain and an optional climb of the 60 foot Kettlefoot Fire Tower for sweeping 360 degree views.

Froggy Mountain stages 50 and 100 mile races on a one mile loop near Galax, VA with about 500 feet of climbing per loop. Aid at the start and finish, basic amenities, and a 60 hour cutoff are provided.

Three nights in the Virginia Highlands with three organized morning trail runs, camping on a mountain property, basic tiny cabins available, limited cell service, GPX routes and professional photos included.

Races and a hike at Hungry Mother State Park on July 25, 2026 include a one lap 15 mile mountain race plus 8 mile options along lakefront trails. Post-event awards, refreshments, live music and games are planned.
