Trail Running calendar near Sandhead 2026-2027

A 10 mile fell race with about 2200 ft of climbing around Cairncastle and Ballygally near Larne. The course uses roads, farm tracks and fells with checkpoints and minimal route marking, and required fell running kit is specified.

A five mile trail race on Arran with over 600 feet of ascent along Forestry trails behind Whiting Bay Village. The route passes Glen Ashdale Falls, forest tracks and the Fairy Glen and is Scottish Athletics licenced.

An 8 km mountain race with about 800 m of climb, run anti-clockwise from Ott Car Park. The unmarked route requires competitors to carry full body cover and wear race numbers on the chest.

An evening two-lap race in Linn Park on Glasgow's south side, covering just under 8 km and featuring the park waterfall and historic Halfpenny Bridge. The event is manually timed, supports the Friends of Linn Park, and has limited entry.

A Category AL hill race on the Isle of Arran covering 20 km with 1670 m of ascent, mostly unmarked and requiring map and compass navigation; entrants must be 18 or older with prior similar race experience.

Pretty Muddy Glasgow is a 5k obstacle event around Strathclyde Loch at Strathclyde Country Park. Waves start every 15 minutes and participants must be 13 or older, with funds raised for Cancer Research UK.

A classic fell race around Buttermere village covering just over 9 miles with over 4000 ft of ascent across steep ridges and rocky climbs. The route passes Knott Rigg, Ard Crags, Causey Pike and Scar Crags with a long descent back into Butt..

A short fell race from the Langstrath Country Inn near Keswick covering 7.5 km with about 430 m of ascent. The route includes rough paths, a flagged compulsory section through an SSSI, marshals on the course, and on the day entry with a fee..

A 5 km mountain race with about 500 m of climb starting at Hen Car Park. The unmarked route is part of the Hills and Dales series, organised by Newcastle AC, with a 15 year minimum age and specific kit and number rules.

A mountain race from Flagstaff to Carlingford of about 16.7 km with roughly 1,000 m ascent. The unmarked route forbids GPS and requires mandatory Level C kit; a free coach transfer is available for the first 70 registered athletes.

Take on the Reston Scar Scamper at Staveley Mill Yard on Wed 24 Jun 2026, a lively 6 km fell race with 301 m of climb across fully marked Lake District trails. On the day entry is £5 and all proceeds support Staveley community projects.

Drinnahilly is a 6 km forest race with 400 m of climb at Donard Forest Park on 25 June 2026, part of the Hill and Dale series. Entries are via SiEntries and runners must be 15 or older.

A three day outdoor festival at Drumlanrig Castle in Dumfries and Galloway from 26 to 28 June 2026 featuring enduro, gravel and trail events alongside wellness sessions and live entertainment. Results will be posted on race day.

An evening trail running festival at Calderglen Country Park on 26 June 2026, with races from a toddler dash to a 10k, chip timing, marshalled courses and an after-race buffet. A donation is made from each 5k and 10k entry.

A 5 km multi-terrain event in Carnlough featuring quarry trails, climbs, a short out-and-back on Largy Road and coastal views; open to runners aged 16 and over with set entry fees and no refunds.

The Cringle Hill Fell Race will take place in Isle of Man on Saturday 27 June 2026.

Two trail races at Honister Slate Mine on 27 June 2026 combine fell climbs with a 700 m underground tunnel section. Routes are flagged and marshaled, helmets and headtorches are required, and the event is open to those aged 16 and over.

MacTuffX Ayr on 27 June 2026 is a functional fitness race at Riverside Arena featuring ten Xercises and repeated runs over two distance options. Entries are available for solo, doubles, and five person relays with a LITE weight division.

July 2026

Gategill Fell Race on Wed 1 Jul 2026 in the Lake District is a short steep 3.6 km climb that tests hill running and grit. On the day entries only, wear grippy shoes and enjoy refreshments as proceeds support the local community.

A memorial fell race from Loweswater Village Hall across the Buttermere fells with long and short AL category courses. The tops are unflagged, full FRA kit is mandatory and navigation experience is required.
