Borrowdale Trail Race
The Borrowdale Trail Race is a established event centered in the Borrowdale Valley in the Lake District. The course begins near the village of Portinscale at the Lingholm Estate and concludes at Crow Park in Keswick. This trail run takes place in a mountainous environment, featuring a varied landscape of woodland trails, rocky singletracks, and grassy paths.
The 21 km route covers a total ascent of 550 meters. The course is fully marked and does not requires navigational skills. Runners transition through several distinct terrains, including:
- Lakeshore trails along the various bays and inlets of Derwentwater.
- Ancient oak woodlands and the rocky slopes of Castle Crag.
- River trails near the hamlets of Grange and Rosthwaite.
- High-elevation bridleways leading to Watendlath.
- Technical rocky sections and hard-packed trails.
The route incorporates several local landmarks such as Ashness Bridge, Surprise View, and Friar’s Crag. Participants must complete the course within a time limit of 4 hours. Registration and number collection take place at the event headquarters in Crow Park. While hydration stations are provided on the course and at the finish, it is recommended that participants carry their own nutrition and fluids.
