Race Across Scotland 215 Mile
Race Across Scotland is a 215 mile ultramarathon following the Southern Upland Way from Portpatrick to Cockburnspath. The route covers 7,218 m of ascent and uses a mix of mountain, valley and forest trails. The event capacity is 250 places and there is a strict 100 hour overall cut off.
The course is supported by 12 checkpoints providing drinks, energy products and snacks; village hall checkpoints may offer hot food. Runners must be self-sufficient between checkpoints and carry mandatory kit at all times. Key mandatory items include a hardcopy Southern Upland Way map, compass, waterproof coat and trousers, headtorch (minimum 75 lumens) plus a separate backup light source (minimum 25 lumens not a phone or watch), survival bag, 1 litre water capacity, fully charged mobile phone, emergency food rations (500 calories) and the GPS tracker provided by the organisers.
Entry is by application only. Participants must be at least 20 years old on race day, be in good health, demonstrate endurance or ultrarunning experience and be able to self-navigate with map and compass. Support crews are permitted from the vicinity of Checkpoint 3 onwards but access and parking restrictions apply at several locations. Two labelled dropbags are permitted with size and weight limits and specific collection points. Pacers and unofficial support runners are not allowed.
