Race Across Scotland
Race Across Scotland is a 215 mile (approximately 346 km) ultramarathon that follows the Southern Upland Way from Portpatrick on the west coast to Cockburnspath on the east coast. The event records 7,218 m of elevation and operates with a maximum field of 250 participants and a strict 100 hour overall cut-off.
The route features 12 staffed checkpoints that provide drinks, energy drinks and a range of snacks; some village halls also offer hot food. There are several bothy locations on the route where no facilities are provided. Runners must be self-sufficient between checkpoints and carry mandatory kit items such as a hardcopy Southern Upland Way map, waterproof coat and trousers, compass, headtorch and backup light, water container, emergency rations, survival bag and a fully charged mobile phone. The race is cupless so participants must carry their own cup.
Entry is by application only. Applicants must be at least 20 years old on race day, have a background in endurance or ultrarunning and be able to self-navigate with map and compass. Support crews are permitted from Glentrool (Checkpoint 3) onwards but access and parking are restricted at several checkpoints; a single vehicle per runner is requested. Dropbag service is available with size and weight limits and two dropbags allowed per participant. Pacers are not permitted. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
