Race Across Scotland 215 Mile
Race Across Scotland is a 215 mile (approximately 346 km) ultra-marathon that follows the Southern Upland Way from Portpatrick on the west coast to Cockburnspath in the east. The course crosses mountains, valleys and forests in the Southern Uplands and includes approximately 7,218 m of ascent. The event is limited to 250 places and has a strict 100 hour overall cut off.
The route uses 12 staffed checkpoints spaced along the course. Checkpoints provide drinks, electrolyte products and snacks, and Village Hall locations may offer hot food. Runners must be self-sufficient between checkpoints, carry a mandatory kit at all times, and use a GPS tracker provided by the organiser. The mandatory kit list includes a hardcopy Southern Upland Way map, waterproof coat and trousers, compass, headtorch and backup light, water container, survival bag or bivvy, emergency rations, fully charged mobile phone and warm hat and gloves. The race operates as a cupless event so participants must bring their own drinking vessel.
Support crews are permitted from the Glentrool checkpoint onwards but access and parking are restricted at many locations; only one support vehicle per runner is allowed and rules on parking and behaviour are enforced. Pacers are not permitted. Entry is by application and applicants must meet qualifying and navigation criteria and be at least 20 years old.
