The Windy Hill Fell Race takes place on Sunday 8 February 2026 at the Rams Head Inn, Ripponden Road, Denshaw, Oldham OL3 5UN. The course is approximately 12 miles with over 2000 feet of climbing. Entry is limited to 300 participants; advance entry fees are listed as £15 for FRA/LDWA/TRA affiliated runners and £17 for non-affiliated runners, with a higher on-the-day fee if the limit is not reached. The race is run under UKA rules and is licensed with the Trail Running Association and the Fell Runners Association. Minimum age is 17 years.

Route, facilities and requirements

The route starts and finishes at the Rams Head. Runners head toward Hollingworth Lake, climb to Blackstone Edge, follow the Pennine Way to the Windy Hill mast, descend to the Ogden Valley, then return to the Rams Head. Some versions of the course note checkpoints at Rakewood, Lydgate and near the Windy Hill mast.

As a winter event, full FRA kit is required, including waterproof jacket and trousers, hat and gloves, traditional paper map and compass (digital maps accepted only with a paper map), whistle, emergency food, and a water bottle of at least 500 ml. Some checkpoints will carry basic supplies of water and sweets. Chip timing will be used and hot soup is provided at the pub for runners; the pub also offers a special runners meal at a discounted price.
