Windy Hill Fell Race

The Windy Hill Fell Race is scheduled for 8 February 2026 and is organised by CraggRunner. The race starts and finishes at the Rams Head Inn, Ripponden Road, Denshaw, Oldham OL3 5UN. The route follows local moorland trails and paths, passing Piethorne Reservoir and the Hollingworth Lake area, climbing to Blackstone Edge, traversing the Pennine Way to the Windy Hill mast, then returning toward Piethorne and back to the Rams Head. Details

• Distance and climb: 12 miles (about 19 km) with approximately 2100 ft (640 m) of ascent.
• Entry: pre-entry fees are £15 (affiliated) and £17 (non-affiliated). Entries are limited to 300; entry on the day is £20 only if the limit has not been reached.
• Minimum age: 18 years.
• Mandatory equipment (full FRA winter kit): waterproof jacket and trousers or full body waterproof cover; hat and gloves; paper map and traditional compass (digital maps may be carried only as a supplement; digital compass not allowed); whistle; emergency food; water bottle (minimum 500 ml); spare clothing as appropriate.
• Checkpoints will carry basic supplies of water and sweets. Hot soup is provided at the finish in the pub.
• Timing and rules: chip timing will be provided with instant online results. The race is run under UKA rules and is licensed with the Trail Running Association and Fell Runners Association; a permit and associated UK Athletics insurance apply.
