Punk Panther Wharfedale Skyline
Punk Panther Wharfedale Skyline is a set of trail races around the Wharfedale hills near Otley, Ilkley and Guiseley. The route includes Otley Chevin’s Surprise View, the Cow and Calf Rocks and Lindley Wood Reservoir and runs close to local landmarks.
The event offers the following distances:
- 13 miles
- 20 miles
- 35 miles
Associated climbs are listed as 1700, 2800 and 4800 feet respectively. The event carries ITRA points (1/1/2) and UTMB qualification designations Q20K/Q20K/Q50K. Minimum age is 18 and the field is limited to 200 entrants; entries so far are shown on the organiser’s entry list.
Checkpoints and timing points are on course; checkpoints provide water, coke, energy bars and snacks with Vegan and Gluten Free options. Timing points must be passed or a time penalty or disqualification may apply. All ultramarathon entrants receive a tracker and shorter-distance runners may hire a tracker for a fee; trackers display live position and have an emergency button that ends the race if pressed.
Competitors must carry mandatory kit for all distances including a waterproof jacket, fluids, cup, nutrition, survival/bivvy bag, whistle, tracker (ultra), hat, gloves, personal first aid kit, a hard copy of the map or route description and suitable bag. Random kit checks will be carried out and failure to carry required items may result in disqualification.
Registration is at The Bridge United Reform Church side entrance in Otley. The finish is at the same church where finishers receive a medal and an event T shirt unless they opt out; hot food and drinks are available with Vegan and Gluten Free options.
