Tinto Hill Race (senior)
The race is an A-category short hill race organised by Carnethy Hill Running Club. The course is 4.4 miles long with about 1500 feet of ascent and follows an unmarked route that crosses ground above 2000 feet. Entry is online only via SiEntries; there are no on-the-day entries. Registration, parking and post-race food are based at Damn Delicious, Thankerton Camp Farm, Thankerton, Biggar (ML12 6PD). Drivers will be directed to the farm and parking must be on the farm grounds; parking at the main Tinto public car park or on nearby roads is not permitted. Presentation of prizes and refreshments take place back at the farm, with free soup for runners and additional food available for purchase.
Competitors must be aged 16 or over. Mandatory minimum kit required to be carried throughout the race includes a waterproof jacket with hood, waterproof overtrousers, hat, gloves, map and compass suitable for navigation, and a whistle. Kit checks will be made before the race. Competitors are responsible for their own safety on the hill; if a runner retires they must inform the nearest marshal and return their race number to the organisers.
Tinto Junior Hill Race
The junior event is for under-16s and is free to enter. The course is about 2 km with 80 metres of ascent. The junior route will be marked and marshalled. Under-8s should be supervised by an adult. Registration for the junior race takes place on the day at the main Tinto Hill car park, and juniors are asked to wait in the finish area if a parent or guardian is running the main race. Runners are recommended to wear or carry waterproofs in poor weather. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
