Two Breweries Hill Race
The Two Breweries Hill Race is a point to point hill race covering 30 km / 1600 m of ascent between Traquair House and Broughton Ales. It is run under Scottish Hill Runners rules and is listed as race category AL.
Entries are pre entry only, limited to 200 places, with an entry fee of £22. No entries will be accepted on the day and substitutions of entrant names are not permitted. An early start option is available to runners who would otherwise struggle to meet checkpoint cutoff times.
Registration is located next to the tearoom in the grounds of Traquair House. Race coaches will transport runners from Broughton to the start with preference given to early start runners. Toilets are provided at the start, beside registration, and after the finish at Broughton Village Hall. A kit van will transport bags to the finish; kit must be clearly marked.
All competitors must carry a full emergency kit: wind and waterproof full body cover, gloves, head cover, a map of the entire race route, an orienteering type compass, a whistle and food equivalent to a chocolate bar. Strict kit checks will be carried out at the start and finish and non compliance will lead to disqualification.
The course is normally unmarked but flagged sections may be used; failure to follow flagged sections will result in disqualification. A planned deer fence alters the direct approach to Trahenna so runners must use Louden Knowe Wood and cross at the new gate 72/142372; climbing deer fences is forbidden. All runners must follow the road from Ratchill Farm to the finish. Checkpoint closing times will be enforced and runners outside those times must withdraw. Hill rescue cover is provided by Moffat Mountain Rescue Team. Runners must be at least 18 years old and no dogs are allowed. Prizegiving will be held in the village hall with prizes for female, male and nonbinary categories.
Sustainability notes include encouraging car sharing, avoiding litter on the hill, and bringing personal items such as safety pins, a mug and a spoon. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
