Run the Borders

Run the Borders is Breaking Strain's trail ultramarathon in the Scottish Borders. The 109 km Borders Abbey Way loop starts and finishes in Melrose, linking Melrose, Dryburgh, Kelso, Jedburgh, Hawick and Selkirk. The course is roughly 50% tarmac with trails, river banks, farm tracks and hills, and features about 1900 metres of ascent.

Runners pass four ruined abbeys—Melrose, Dryburgh, Kelso and Jedburgh—along the Tweed, Teviot and Jed Water. Highlights include 12 checkpoints, GPS trackers for live progress, robust signage, and friendly marshals; drop bags are available. Distances include a 50K and a 109K relay, plus a walking challenge.
