About the race
Run the Borders is an ultra marathon held on the Borders Abbeys Way, a circular route in the central Scottish Borders that links the ruined abbeys of Melrose, Dryburgh, Kelso and Jedburgh and passes through Melrose, Kelso, Jedburgh, Hawick and Selkirk. The full circuit is approximately 109 km and includes about 1900 metres of ascent.
The course uses a mix of surfaces with no more than 50% tarmac, including river banks, farm tracks, trails and quiet country roads. The route is waymarked with fixed finger posts and is supplemented by the organiser's yellow and black signage. Safety measures include GPS trackers for all participants, checkpoint marshals, a sweeper vehicle and first aid cover at checkpoints and in the event village.
