Course and safety

The route is an out-and-back over upland ground with self-navigation required. The course distance is approximately 10 miles / 16 km with total ascent around 2,230 ft / 680 m. Checkpoints are positioned at the gate in the wall at the top of the Glack (both directions) and on the Scrape summit. The 2025 course starts from the registration field area, crosses fields and a minor road, follows Glack Hope and a section of the John Buchan Way, then follows vehicle tracks close to the march dyke over White Knowe and Whitelaw Hill to Dead Wife’s Grave before continuing to the Scrape summit. Runners return by the same route. A lower turning point may be used as a bad-weather alternative. Competitors must carry mandatory kit; waterproof jacket and overtrousers, hat, gloves, map, compass and whistle will be checked at registration.
