Outrun the Night
Outrun the Night is a 12 hour night trail running challenge at Dalkeith Country Park. Participants run repeated 5 km loops on a marked course that combines woodland trails and some road. Runners return to a base camp on the Palace Lawn after each loop to rest, refuel and decide whether to go again. A loop must be started before the 12 hour cut-off to count, and loops started before the cut-off may be completed.
Entries are available for solo runners and for teams of two or four. Only one team member may be on the course at a time and each completed loop adds to the entrant or team total. Solo competitors will appear on separate men’s and women’s leaderboards; team categories have their own leaderboards and event recognition. Entry fees listed by the organiser are: Solo £49, Team of two £35 per person (total £70), Team of four £30 per person (total £120).
Base camp provisions include drinking water, basic carbohydrates (bananas, crisps, biscuits and sweets), toilets, professional medical support, a staffed event base and a basic bag-drop area. There will be no organiser-provided marquee or runner shelter; each runner or team may use one shelter pitch up to 3m x 3m. Open flames and camping stoves are not permitted, but hot water for instant food and drinks will be available.
Mandatory equipment includes a working headtorch plus a second working headtorch or spare batteries, a fully charged mobile phone, suitable footwear for uneven woodland terrain and clothing appropriate for overnight conditions. Parking is free within the park, roughly a five minute walk from base camp. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
