The Moors the Merrier is scheduled for Saturday 13 December 2025. It is a 21-mile circular route with about 3,900 ft of ascent, starting and finishing at Hebden Bridge (Mount Skip) Golf Club, Great Mount, Wadsworth, Hebden Bridge, HX7 8PH. The anti-clockwise course goes over Midgley Moor, Wadsworth Moor, Heptonstall Moor and Erringden Moor, and includes a significant climb back to the golf club. The event is run under UKA rules and is licensed with the Trail Running Association and the Fell Runners Association.
The entry limit is 275 and there are no entries on the day. Entry fees for 2025 are shown as £33 (affiliated) and £35 (non-affiliated). The event includes well stocked checkpoints, OpenTracking live tracking, tea and toast at the start, pie and peas plus additional festive treats at the finish, and changing rooms with showers at the clubhouse.
Logistics and requirements
The route is not flagged and requires navigation; GPS devices are allowed as a safety backup and a GPX file and route description are available. Participants must follow the route description and visit all checkpoints in the correct order. Age rules: the race class is for those aged 18 or older; under 18s may take part in the walkers/non-competitive class if accompanied by an adult. Dogs are allowed on the early walkers/non-competitive start only and must be kept on a lead.
Because this is a winter event, the organiser requires a minimum kit list. Mandatory items include a Santa hat and a small present for the bran tub, waterproof top and bottoms with taped seams and a hooded jacket, hat and gloves, map, compass and whistle, spare long sleeve top, spare food and drink, survival bag and headtorch.
