About the Marlow Donkey

The Marlow Donkey is a Thames Valley LDWA challenge walk held in Marlow, Buckinghamshire, with the start and finish at Liston Hall (Marlow Community Association). The event date is Sunday 4 October 2026. Entrants must complete their chosen route exclusively on foot and follow the published route description and marshal instructions.

Entrants must complete the routes within the stated maximum times: 8 hours for the 25 km option and 11 hours for the 40 km and 50 km options. Checkpoints have official opening and closing times and will record times; if an entrant arrives after a checkpoint cut off they will be required to return on a shorter route. Timed certificates are available on request for those who finish within the limits.

Entries are limited to 150 places and are allocated on a first come basis. LDWA members have an earlier entry period; entries open to members on 1 June and to others on 1 September, closing on 20 September or when the limit is reached. Entry is via the online system and there is no entry on the day; fees are £15 for LDWA members and £20 for non members. The entry fee includes drinks and snacks at two points, a simple meal at the finish, and transport for retirees.

Safety and rules: entrants must provide a mobile phone and a separate emergency contact, carry mandatory kit including a personal drinking container, plastic mug, paper copy of the route description, mobile phone with spare power, whistle, basic first aid, suitable footwear, waterproofs, a compass and specified maps or adequate electronic map files, and clothing appropriate for the weather. Anyone under 18 must have written consent and be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Organisers may vary the route, carry out kit checks, and retire participants who do not carry mandatory kit. A timed Friday event on a flat 5.3 km out-and-back course along the river Thames, with lap-based distances from 5 km to ultra and a £10 Run for a Tenner entry benefiting Rays of Sunshine.

A 50 km multi terrain ultramarathon around Maidenhead, run on a single lap route that follows the Thames Path and Jubilee River. The course is mostly off road with four aid stations, chip timing, live tracking and free race photos.

An 86 miles (139 km) point to point trail race along the full length of The Ridgeway National Trail from Ivinghoe Beacon to Avebury Stones. The event features open tracking, permanent signage and aid stations spaced along the route.

A 60 km point to point ultramarathon along the Ridgeway National Trail from Ivinghoe Beacon to near Wallingford, featuring open tracking, four aid stations and a 10 hour time allowance. Entries close 17 May 2026.
