The Marlow Donkey

The Marlow Donkey is a challenge event organised by Thames Valley LDWA around the Hambleden and Stonor valleys, starting and finishing at Liston Hall (Marlow Community Association), Marlow, Bucks (GR SU850867, what3words backyards.madder.scope). The event offers three newly revised routes:

  • 25 km
  • 40 km
  • 50 km

Entrants aim to complete a chosen route on foot within the published maximum time allowances: approximately eight hours for the 25 km route and eleven hours for the longer routes. Checkpoints provide drinks and snacks at the start and outward points, with minimal provision at Bix (CP3). A simple meal (daal curry) is provided at the finish. Participants are informed that food cannot be guaranteed free from allergens.

Timed e-certificates are available after the event via SI Entries, and all finishers receive a free badge. Thames Valley LDWA requires a set of compulsory items to be carried, including at least one litre of drinking water in a personal container, a plastic mug for checkpoint drinks, a paper copy of the route description or specified maps, a mobile phone, whistle, basic first aid, waterproofs and suitable footwear.

Entry is limited to 150 participants. LDWA members have preferential entry until 1 September; entry fees are listed as £15 for LDWA members and £20 for non-members. There are no entries on the day and no refunds; a waiting list operates once the event is full. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
