Event Overview

The Marlow Donkey is a challenge event offering three walking route options around the Hambleden and Stonor valleys, starting and finishing in Marlow. It is organized by the Thames Valley group of the LDWA.

Routes & Challenge

The event features three route distances on foot: approximately 25 km, 40 km, and 50 km. The 50 km route celebrates the group's 50th anniversary. The maximum time to complete the 25 km route is 8 hours, while the longer routes have an 11-hour limit. All participants must finish by 7:00 PM. The route is described as a figure of eight centred on Hambleden village, with the longest route extending to Bix.

What's Included & Logistics

The entry fee includes drinks and snacks at the start and at checkpoints, and a simple meal (daal curry) at the finish. Participants will receive a badge, and timed e-certificates will be available after the event. The start and finish location is Liston Hall (Marlow Community Association) in Marlow. Car parking is available in nearby town car parks (with a charge). The Marlow train station is about a 10-minute walk away, and buses are available from Wycombe or Reading.

Entry Information

  • Entries open on June 1, 2026, at 09:00.
  • LDWA members have preferential entry until September 1, after which it opens to non-members.
  • The entry limit is 150 participants.
  • Entry fees are £15.00 for LDWA members and £20.00 for non-members.
  • There are no entries on the day, no refunds, and a waiting list will operate once the event is full.

Participant Requirements

All entrants must carry mandatory equipment. This includes a personal drinking container, a plastic mug, food and drink for between checkpoints, a paper route description, a mobile phone, a whistle, basic first aid, suitable footwear, waterproofs, a compass, and specified maps.
