The MTC Oxford Ultra
The MTC Oxford Ultra is a 49 mile race along the Thames Path and forms stage two of a four‑stage Thames Challenge. The route passes through Oxfordshire and follows the River Thames, taking in locations such as Sandford Weir, Culham, Cholsey, Moulsford, Streatley and Whitchurch-on-Thames, with a short diversion through Purley Park and past Tilehurst to finish at the Catherine Wheel J.D. Wetherspoons.
The course starts near the Travelodge on Abingdon Road and includes three staffed checkpoints that provide water and some nutritional snacks. Competitors must ensure each checkpoint attendant records their race number; failure to do so will result in disqualification. Runners are expected to be self-sufficient for transport to the start and from the finish.
Practical details include the event location at Abingdon Road, Oxford OX1 4XG. The Travelodge is situated just off the A34, about 1.5 miles from Oxford city centre, and Oxford Station is approximately 2 miles from the start area; regular bus services link the city centre with nearby stops. Entrants must be at least 18 years old. Mandatory kit includes a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, map or organiser maps, compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone, first aid kit and a reusable cup.
The event package includes a bespoke finisher's medal, event t-shirt or mug or hat, checkpoint attendants, trophies for top finishers and checkpoint drinks and nibbles. The listed entry fee is £90. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
