The MTC Oxford Ultra

The MTC Oxford Ultra is a 49-mile point-to-point ultramarathon that follows large sections of the Thames Path between Oxford and Henley-on-Thames. The route begins at the Travelodge Oxford Abingdon Road and finishes at The Catherine Wheel in Henley-on-Thames. The published total ascent is 293 metres and total descent is 328 metres.

Runners rejoin the Thames Path after about 0.5 miles at Donnington Road Bridge and pass landmarks including Sandford Weir, Culham and Cholsey. The route leaves the riverside briefly to pass through Moulsford, then returns past Streatley and Whitchurch-on-Thames, with a short deviation through Purley Park and sections near Tilehurst and Reading before arriving in Henley-on-Thames.

The race provides three checkpoints that supply water and a selection of food items; example items may include malt loaf, sandwiches, dried fruit, squash, cola and water. Organisers aim to cater for gluten free, vegan and vegetarian diets if advised at entry; competitors may also leave drop bags at checkpoints.

Competitors must provide their own transport to the start and from the finish and are responsible for navigation as many sections are not signed. Mandatory kit includes a GPX device or downloaded route and a mobile phone with sufficient battery backup. Entrants must be 20 years or over. All entrants should expect non-refundable entry fees. Finishers receive a bespoke Oxford Ultra medal and a choice of a technical t-shirt, mug or hat. The first male and female finishers receive bespoke trophies.
