The MTC Oxford Ultra

The MTC Oxford Ultra is a 49 miles point to point race that follows sections of the Thames Path between Oxford and Henley on Thames. The race starts at Travelodge Oxford Abingdon Road and finishes at The Catherine Wheel in Henley on Thames.

The route reaches the Thames Path after about 0.5 miles at Donnington Road Bridge and passes Sandford Weir, Culham and Cholsey. The course leaves the river briefly to go through Moulsford, then returns past Streatley and Whitchurch on Thames, with a short deviation through Purley Park before passing Tilehurst and Reading en route to Henley on Thames.

The course includes three staffed checkpoints offering water and basic nutrition. Segment distances are:

  • Start to Checkpoint 1 - 12.3 miles
  • Checkpoint 1 to Checkpoint 2 - 12.7 miles
  • Checkpoint 2 to Checkpoint 3 - 13.4 miles
  • Checkpoint 3 to Finish - 9.7 miles

Checkpoint nutrition may include items such as malt loaf, cake, sandwiches, dried fruit, sweets, squash, cola and water. Organisers aim to cater for gluten free, vegan and vegetarian needs when notified; competitors may leave drop bags at checkpoints.

Competitors must carry mandatory kit including a GPX device or downloaded route and a mobile phone. Entrants must be self sufficient for transport to the start and from the finish. A minimum average speed of 4.0 miles per hour is required; falling below this may result in withdrawal. Entry fee information and prize details include an entry fee of £90, non refundable payments, finishers receiving a bespoke medal and a choice of technical t shirt mug or hat, with trophies for the first male and female finishers.
