The MTC Oxford Ultra

The MTC Oxford Ultra is a point-to-point ultra running event covering 49 miles from Travelodge Oxford Abingdon Road to The Catherine Wheel, Henley-on-Thames. The route follows the Thames Path shortly after the start and passes Sandford Weir, Culham, Cholsey, Moulsford, Streatley, Whitchurch-on-Thames, Purley Park, Tilehurst and Reading before finishing in Henley-on-Thames. Total ascent is 293 metres and total descent is 328 metres.

The event provides three staffed checkpoints on course that supply water and basic nutrition. Example items listed for checkpoints include malt loaf, cake, jam, peanut butter, cheese or marmite sandwiches, sweets, dried fruits, squash, cola and water. Organisers endeavour to cater for gluten free, vegan and vegetarian diets; competitors with other dietary requirements must provide their own food, though drop bags can be left at checkpoints.

Competitors must be self-sufficient for transport to the start and from the finish. Mandatory kit includes a GPX device or downloaded route on a phone with sufficient battery backup and a mobile phone. Entrants must maintain an average of 4.0 miles per hour or they will be removed from the event if they fall below this requirement. All deposits and payments are non refundable; the standard individual entry fee is £90 and there is an option to run free by raising an agreed amount for the event charity. All finishers receive a bespoke Oxford Ultra medal and one item from a technical t-shirt, mug or hat. First male and female finishers receive a bespoke champion trophy.
