The MTC Oxford Ultra is a point-to-point ultra running event organised by Ultra Running Ltd. The advertised distance is 49 miles with approximately 293 m of ascent and 328 m of descent. The course starts at Travelodge, Abingdon Road, Oxford OX1 4XG and finishes at The Catherine Wheel, Hart Street, Henley-on-Thames RG9 2AR. Entry is listed at £90 per person; deposits and payments are non-refundable. Entrants must be at least 20 years old on race day. All finishers receive a bespoke medal and a choice of a technical t-shirt, mug or hat; the first male and female finishers receive a bespoke trophy.
Course, checkpoints and rules
The route reaches the Thames Path after about 0.5 miles and passes Sandford Weir, Culham, Cholsey, Moulsford, Streatley, Whitchurch-on-Thames, Purley Park, Tilehurst and Reading before arriving at Henley-on-Thames. The race has three checkpoints that provide water and some nutrition; sample items include malt loaf, sandwiches, dried fruit, squash, cola and water. Checkpoint distances:
- Start to Checkpoint 1 - 12.3 miles
- Checkpoint 1 to Checkpoint 2 - 12.7 miles
- Checkpoint 2 to Checkpoint 3 - 13.4 mile
- Checkpoint 3 to Finish - 9.7 miles
Competitors must be self-sufficient for travel to and from the event and must carry mandatory kit such as a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, navigation (GPX device or maps and compass), mobile phone, whistle and a first aid kit. Competitors must maintain an average of 4.0 mph including stops or they may be withdrawn. Checkpoint closure times are set relative to race start.
