The MTC Oxford Ultra
The MTC Oxford Ultra is a point to point 49 mile race from Travelodge Oxford Abingdon Road (OX1 4XG) to the Catherine Wheel, Henley-on-Thames (RG9 2AR). The route rejoins the Thames Path after about 0.5 miles at Donnington Road Bridge and passes Sandford Weir, Culham and Cholsey. The course leaves the river briefly through Moulsford, then returns to pass Streatley, Whitchurch-on-Thames, Purley Park, Tilehurst and Reading before reaching Henley-on-Thames.
The course total ascent is listed as 293 metres and total descent 328 metres. There are three staffed checkpoints along the route; each provides water and basic nutrition. Example refreshments may include malt loaf, cake, jam, peanut butter, cheese or marmite sandwiches, sweets, dried fruit, squash, cola and water. The organisers aim to cater for gluten free, vegan and vegetarian diets where possible; competitors should state dietary needs on entry and may leave drop bags at checkpoints.
Participants must be self-sufficient for travel to the start and from the finish. Entrants must be 20 years or over on the event date and meet a minimum average speed requirement of 4.0 miles per hour including stops; falling below this will result in removal from the race. Mandatory kit includes a GPX device or downloaded route with adequate battery backup and a mobile phone. All finishers receive a bespoke Oxford Ultra medal and a choice of technical t-shirt, mug or hat; the first male and female finishers receive bespoke trophies. Entry is non refundable and the standard individual fee is listed as £90. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
