The MTC Oxford Ultra

The MTC Oxford Ultra is a 49 mile point-to-point race running along sections of the Thames Path. The course begins at Travelodge Oxford Abingdon Road (OX1 4XG) and finishes at The Catherine Wheel, Henley-on-Thames (7-15 Hart St, RG9 2AR). The route reaches the Thames Path after 0.5 miles at Donnington Rd Bridge and passes Sandford Weir, Culham, Cholsey, Moulsford, Streatley, Whitchurch-on-Thames, Purley Park, Tilehurst and Reading before arriving in Henley-on-Thames.

The course total ascent is 293 metres with 328 metres of descent. There are three official checkpoints that supply water and some nutrition. Checkpoint segments are: Start to CP1 12.3 miles, CP1 to CP2 12.7 miles, CP2 to CP3 13.4 miles and CP3 to Finish 9.7 miles. Example food items at checkpoints may include cake, sandwiches, dried fruit, squash, cola and water; organisers aim to cater for gluten free, vegan and vegetarian options but competitors should advise dietary needs and may provide additional supplies via drop bags.

Competitors must carry mandatory navigation kit including a GPX device or downloaded route and a mobile phone. Entrants must provide their own transport to the start and from the finish. The event enforces a minimum average speed of 4.0 miles per hour; competitors falling below this may be withdrawn. All finishers receive a bespoke Oxford Ultra medal and a choice of technical t-shirt, mug or hat. First male and female finishers receive an Oxford Ultra trophy.
