Thames Meander Summer

Thames Meander Summer is a riverside running event that follows the Thames Path between the Petersham and Barnes areas. The event offers three distances on towpath and trail surfaces, with routes described as flat and runnable. The course is waymarked and marshalled, and runners use sections of public towpath that may be shared with walkers and cyclists.

Medical support is provided by KLP Medics, and checkpoints are stocked with drinks, gels and other high energy items to support refuelling needs. The organisers note that route accuracy is subject to the nature of the Thames Path trail and public use.

Distances and basic route formats:

  • 10 km: one out and back lap to Kew Gardens Car Park turnaround.
  • Half marathon: one 13.1 mile out and back to opposite Barnes Sports Club.
  • Marathon: two 13.1 mile out and back laps to opposite Barnes Sports Club.

Checkpoint locations include Kew Gardens Car Park, Ferry Lane TW9 3AG (CP2), and the Thames Path opposite Barnes Sports Club, Lonsdale Rd SW13 9Q (CP3). The start and finish take place at a riverside venue in the Petersham / Barnes area, with checkpoint medical cover noted at the start/finish and at Kew Gardens Car Park. Runners World has rated the event among the top ten trail marathons in the U.K. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
