The MTC Windsor Ultra
The MTC Windsor Ultra is a point-to-point ultra marathon covering 47 miles along the River Thames. The race starts outside The Catherine Wheel, Henley-on-Thames (RG9 2AR) and finishes outside Travelodge Kingston Central (KT1 2PD). Total ascent is 155 metres and total descent is 182 metres. UTMB points are listed as t.b.a. All entries and deposits are non-refundable. Entry price is listed as £90. All finishers receive a bespoke Windsor Ultra medal and a choice of a bespoke technical t-shirt, mug, or hat; the first male and female finisher receive a bespoke trophy. Late entries within four weeks may not be guaranteed the specific Windsor Ultra medal.
Route, checkpoints and rules
The route follows the Thames from Henley and passes Seven Corner Alley, Marlow Lock, Cookham Moor, Maidenhead Bridge, under the M4, Dorney Thames Field, Boveney Lock, Windsor Racecourse, Brocas Meadow with views of Windsor Castle, Windsor Bridge, Runnymede, Bellweir Lock, Staines Bridge, Queen Mary Reservoir, Shepperton Lock, Walton Lane, and Teddington before leaving the Thames Path toward Kingston.
There are three check-points providing water and basic nutrition. Example items may include malt loaf, cake, sandwiches, sweets, dried fruit, squash, cola, and water. The organisers attempt to cater for gluten free, vegan, and vegetarian diets; other dietary needs must be supplied by the competitor. Drop bags can be left at checkpoints.
Checkpoint distances:
- Start to Checkpoint 1 - 9.5 miles
- Checkpoint 1 to Checkpoint 2 - 12 miles
- Checkpoint 2 to Checkpoint 3 - 13.9 miles
- Checkpoint 3 to Finish - 12.9 miles
Mandatory kit includes a GPX device or the route downloaded to a phone and a mobile phone. Competitors must provide their own transport to the start and from the finish. Entrants must maintain an average of at least 4.0 miles per hour; falling below this minimum may result in removal from the race. Check-point closure times are set as specific hours after race start.
