MTC Windsor Ultra
The MTC Windsor Ultra is a point to point ultra running event covering 47 miles along the River Thames, running from Henley to Kingston. The published route follows the Thames Path and passes notable locations including Marlow Lock, Cookham Moor, Maidenhead Bridge, Dorney/Thames Field, Boveney Lock, Windsor Racecourse, Brocas Meadow with views of Windsor Castle, Runnymede, Staines Bridge and the Queen Mary Reservoir before leaving the Thames Path to finish in Kingston.
The event uses defined start and finish locations in Henley and Kingston. Competitors are expected to be self sufficient for travel to the start and from the finish; there are train stations near both ends of the route. The organisers provide three checkpoints on course that supply water and a range of food items. Typical checkpoint offerings may include malt loaf, cakes, sandwiches, dried fruit, sweets, squash, cola and water. The organiser aims to cater for Gluten Free, Vegan and Vegetarian diets when advised; other dietary needs should be supplied by the competitor or left in drop bags at checkpoints.
Checkpoint spacing is published: 9.5 miles, then 12 miles, then 13.9 miles to the final 12.9 mile leg to the finish. Entrants must carry mandatory navigation kit such as a GPX device or downloaded route on a phone and a mobile phone. A minimum average pace of 4.0 miles per hour is required; competitors who fall below this threshold will be withdrawn. Finishers receive a bespoke Windsor Ultra medal and a choice of a technical t-shirt, mug or hat, and the first male and female finisher receive bespoke trophies. Entry fees are non refundable. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
