Hardmoors 55

The Hardmoors 55 is a 53 mile ultramarathon following much of the Hardmoors110/Cleveland Way route from Guisborough to Helmsley, taking competitors across the crest of the North York Moors and the Cleveland Hills. The course includes notable features such as Roseberry Topping and the Three Sisters and records approximately 7,545 ft / 2,300 m of ascent. Entry is limited to 380 places including relay teams and Slam entrants, and the overall time limit for completion is 16 hours.

Checkpoints are positioned along the route at Roseberry Topping (6.5 miles), Kildale (11 miles), Clay Bank (20 miles), Osmotherley (30 miles), Sneck Yate Bank (39 miles) and the White Horse (44 miles), with food and water provided at most checkpoints. Two non returnable drop bags are permitted at Kildale and Osmotherley; a single small waterproof finish bag is taken to Helmsley.

Runners must carry mandatory kit for the full event. Key items include a race vest or large bumbag, hat and spare gloves, waterproof jacket with taped seams and hood, waterproof trousers, full running tights, minimum 1 litre of water, headtorch, Cleveland Way or OS map, whistle, survival bag or Blizzard survival jacket, foil blanket, spare warm layer and a fully charged mobile phone. Spot checks occur and penalties apply for missing items; some omissions lead to time penalties and others to disqualification.

Relay teams of 2 to 4 runners are allowed with vehicle backup and slightly different kit sharing rules. Support crews and spectators are restricted to specified locations only. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
