The Hardmoors 55

Guisborough, United Kingdom • 21 Mar 2026

Event overview

The Hardmoors 55 is described as a 55 mile ultramarathon running from Guisborough to Helmsley through the North York Moors and the Cleveland Hills. The course is reported to include over 2700 m of ascent and is mainly on the Cleveland Way National Trail (about 95% of the route). The event is organised by Hardmoors and entries open 27 April 2025 and close 27 February 2026. Entry fees vary by date and attachment status and include a compulsory OpenTracking tracker.

Course, checkpoints and support

The route uses the Cleveland Way and passes a series of checkpoints and aid points. Water is provided at most checkpoints, basic food at some checkpoints, and hot drinks at a minimum of two checkpoints. Two non-returnable drop bag locations are allowed: Kildale Village Hall (about 11 miles) and Osmotherley Village Hall (about 30 miles). Runners may have one small waterproof finish bag. Support crews are not allowed. One support runner is permitted from Sutton Bank to the finish but may not carry the runner's equipment or take food or drink from aid stations.

Rules, kit and safety

The race is designed to be run unsupported and has a strict mandatory kit list. Items must be carried for the full event and may be spot-checked; missing mandatory items can result in time penalties or disqualification. Runners must carry the provided tracker and hand in their race number and tracker if they retire. Sweepers operate on the course and any decision by race directors, marshals or medics to withdraw a runner is final. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
