The Blue 2 Blue Challenge
The Blue 2 Blue Challenge is a trail ultramarathon in New Haven, CT, listed as a 50K. The out-and-back route starts at West Rock Playground and follows blue-blazed trails, including the Regicides Trail (West Rock) and the Quinnipiac Trail. The course finishes near Amrhyn Field at about mile 32.8, and the organizer notes it runs more like a longer ultramarathon.
Terrain is described as very technical and rocky, with approximately 6,350 feet of climbing. Runners will encounter steep, rocky climbs and technical singletrack, including summits such as High Rock and Mt. Sanford and segments that pass Roaring Brook Park and Cornwall Avenue near the turnaround.
Aid and logistics are specified in detail. Aid stations are provided at roughly mile 4 (Regicides), mile 8.1 and 24.5 (Brooks Rd), miles 11.5 and 21 (Y Camp), the turnaround at mile 16.4 (Cornwall Ave) where a drop bag is shuttled, and mile 28.5 (Yellow Trail) with water only. All distances are approximate.
Entry requires vetting via a waitlist and a qualifying trail 50K completed in the previous 12 months or a comparable difficult race. Rules are strict: no pacers, no crews, and runners receiving outside aid may be disqualified. Cutoff requirements include reaching the turnaround at mile 16 in 4.5 hours, mile 24 in 7 hours, and a strict 10-hour overall cutoff. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
