Event overview

The Storybook Half Marathon is a trail half marathon held at Roosevelt Forest, 700 Peters Lane, Stratford, CT. The race distance is 13.1 miles. The event is open to runners, ruckers, hikers, and walkers. Registration closes Wed, Nov 18. The race partners with Books4Everyone and will collect new and gently used children’s books on race day for distribution to local schools, shelters, and community organizations.

Course and logistics

The course is a 1.64-mile wooded loop on marked singletrack and doubletrack trails. The trail includes roots, rocks, and gently rolling hills; completing the course requires 8 loops. A main pavilion aid station provides hydration and snacks that participants will pass each loop. Porta potties are located near the pavilion. Parking is limited; larger vehicles should use the side lot and RVs are not allowed. Every participant receives a Storybook Half Marathon medallion and non-alcoholic beer from Athletic Brewing. Additional race swag and race shirts are available for purchase, with limited sizes on race day. Prizes are awarded to the top three male and top three female finishers. Costume prizes will be given for notable costumes.

Rules and policies

Run Sleeping Giant State Park on scenic, challenging trails with 25K and 50K options. Tackle runnable miles, rocky singletrack and a steep scramble to sweeping views, while supporting the park through registration proceeds.

Join Last Chance's Run for the Rescue, a scenic 5K at Blydenburgh Park on April 11 with virtual entry through Apr 19. Bring leashed dogs, enjoy trails and refreshments, and support Last Chance Animal Rescue.

Run or walk the John Jay Community Trail Race in Cross River through scenic wooded trails and rolling hills, with 5k, 4k walk and a Kids Jay Dash on the track. A family friendly community event that finishes on the John Jay Contest Field.

Run a scenic all terrain 5K through Stamford Museum and Nature Center, looping Bendel Pond and passing farm animals. Bring kids for a fun run with Petunia the Scottish Highland cow and support the museum.
