SilverBackTrails Summits of the NYM

SilverBackTrails Summits of the NYM is a circular foot race of circa 120 miles with about 16,000 ft of elevation, visiting the ten highest hills within the North York Moors National Park. The event has a total time limit of 35 hours, a maximum of 70 participants and a minimum age of 18.

The route follows sections of the Cleveland Way, the Esk Valley Walk and the Lyke Wake Walk. It passes ancient burial mounds, medieval boundary stones, ancient crosses and Bronze Age earthworks and starts and finishes at Goathland village hall.

Checkpoint provision includes indoor locations at circa 40 and 80 miles with hot water, tea and coffee and hot food options such as noodles and jacket potatoes, plus some vegan and gluten free choices. One medium drop bag per participant will be taken to the indoor checkpoints. All entrants receive a tracker and a GPX file.

Support crews of up to three people and one vehicle are allowed but may only assist at designated checkpoints. Pacers and support runners are not permitted. No sticks or headphones and no preplaced caches of equipment or food. Participants must pass a kit check and carry specified safety equipment, including waterproofs, thermal layers, hat and gloves, an emergency bivvy, capacity for two litres of water, at least 250 grams of emergency food, a head torch with spare batteries, a charged mobile with power bank and mapping apps, a paper map and a working compass. An 8.5 mile fell race around Glaisdale Rigg with about 1850 ft of ascent, a steep green-lane descent off Snowdon Nab and a finish at the Arncliffe Arms. Limited to 100 runners and part of the Esk Valley Fell Summer series.

A 5k obstacle event at Stewart Park in Middlesbrough with mud obstacles on tarmac and grass paths passing the Captain Cook Birth Place Museum. Waves run every 15 minutes and participants must be 13 or older.

Experience a flat trail run through the Fox Rush Farm Community Woodland with 3k and 5k options. Enjoy chip timed races on established paths organized by New Marske Harriers and receive a burger and medal at the finish.
