SilverBackTrails Summits of The North York Moors Ultra
The event is a foot race over a circular route of approximately 120 miles, starting and finishing in the village of Goathland. The course visits some of the higher hills within the North York Moors and uses established long distance paths, including portions of the Cleveland Way, the Esk Valley Walk and the Lyke Wake Walk.
The surface and route types include moorland tracks, drove roads, ancient trods and quiet country lanes. Runners follow clearly defined tracks and trods as the route ascends and descends the moorland hills, with wide views across the surrounding landscape.
The route passes a series of historic and archaeological features such as ancient burial sites, medieval boundary stones, ancient crosses and Bronze Age earthworks. The organiser presents the route as one that runs through a landscape with continuous evidence of long use and human presence from earlier eras.
