Summits of The North York Moors Ultra is a foot race held on a circular route of approximately 120 miles through the North York Moors National Park. The route includes the 10 highest hills in the moors and follows sections of the Cleveland Way, Esk Valley Walk and Lyke Wake Walk. The planned total ascent is about 16,000 ft. The event starts and finishes at Goathland Village Hall (The Common, Goathland, YO22 5JS). The overall time limit for the event is 35 hours. The event is limited to a maximum of 70 participants and the minimum age is 18.

Logistics, facilities and rules

There are indoor checkpoints at about 40 and 80 miles, plus several other checkpoint locations that provide water, soft drinks and food. Indoor checkpoints will offer hot water, tea/coffee, Super Noodles, Pot Noodles, jacket potatoes and some vegan and gluten free options. Each entrant will receive a tracker and a GPX file of the route. One medium drop bag per participant will be taken to the indoor checkpoint locations. Support crews are allowed with a maximum of three people and one vehicle and may assist only at designated checkpoints. Pacers and support runners are not allowed. There is a mandatory kit list and a kit check; required items include waterproofs, spare thermal, emergency bivvy, capacity for 2 litres of water, emergency food (at least 250 g), head torch with spare batteries, charged mobile phone with power bank and mapping apps, a map and a working compass.
