Summits of the North York Moors Ultra

Summits of the North York Moors Ultra is a circular footrace of approximately 120 miles that visits the ten highest hills within the North York Moors National Park. The route follows sections of the Cleveland Way, Esk Valley Walk and Lyke Wake Walk, and crosses hills and moorland via established tracks and trods. Total ascent is about 16,000 ft and the event carries a 35 hours time limit. The race is scheduled for 4 to 5 July 2026 and is based at Goathland Village Hall.

The course passes ancient burial mounds, medieval boundary stones, crosses and Bronze Age earthworks, and entrants receive a GPX file and a tracker. There are indoor checkpoints at about 40 and 80 miles where participants can access hot water, tea and coffee, soft drinks and a range of food options including noodle dishes, jacket potatoes and some vegan and gluten free choices. One medium drop bag will be taken to the indoor checkpoints.

Support crews are limited to three people and one vehicle and may only assist at designated checkpoints. Pacers and support runners are not permitted. No sticks, no headphones and no pre-caching of equipment are allowed; shops and public houses on route may be used to restock. Mandatory kit includes hat and gloves, waterproof jacket and trousers, spare thermal top, emergency bivvy, capacity for 2 litres of water, at least 250 g of emergency food, head torch with spare batteries, charged mobile with power bank and leads, OS Locate and What3Words on the phone, an appropriate map and a working compass. Entry fee is £110 and the field is limited to 70 participants. Finishers receive a bespoke medal and a certificate. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
