Summits of the North York Moors Ultra : event overview
Summits of the North York Moors Ultra is a circular footrace that visits the ten highest hills within the North York Moors National Park. The route is approximately 120 miles long with about 16,000 ft of elevation gain and follows portions of the Cleveland Way, Esk Valley Walk and Lyke Wake Walk across defined tracks and trods.
The course passes a range of archaeological and historic features, including burial mounds, Bronze Age earthworks, medieval boundary stones and ancient crosses. Checkpoints include two indoor locations at circa 40 and 80 miles that provide hot water, tea and coffee, soft drinks, basic hot food options and some vegan and gluten free choices. Participants may use these indoor checkpoints for a short rest while the race clock continues to run.
Entry is limited to a maximum of 70 participants and the minimum age is 18. The overall time allowance for the event is 35 hours, and all participants must leave the final indoor checkpoint at circa 80 miles within 22 hours. Each entrant receives a tracker and a GPX file of the route; one medium drop bag will be taken to the indoor checkpoints.
Support crews are limited to three people and one vehicle, and assistance is permitted only at designated checkpoints. Pacers and support runners are not allowed. Mandatory minimum kit is specified and will be subject to a kit check. Finishers receive a bespoke medal and a certificate. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
