The Summits of The North York Moors Ultra is a footrace on 4-5 July 2026, organised by SilverBackTrails and based at Goathland Village Hall, The Common, Goathland, YO22 5JS. Entry is open from 8 July 2025 until 27 June 2026. The minimum age is 18 and the entry fee is £110. The event is limited to a maximum of 70 participants.

Distances, elevation and time limits:

  • 120 miles route
  • Circa 16,000 ft total elevation gain
  • Indoor checkpoints at circa 40 miles and 80 miles
  • Overall time allowed: 35 hours; runners must have left the final indoor checkpoint within 22 hours

Course, support and rules

The circular route visits the 10 highest hills within the North York Moors National Park and follows sections of the Cleveland Way, Esk Valley Walk and Lyke Wake Walk. The course passes ancient burial sites, medieval boundary stones, crosses and Bronze Age earthworks. All entrants receive a tracker and a GPX file for the route.

Support: one medium drop bag is transported to the indoor checkpoints. Each runner may have a support crew of up to three people and one vehicle, but assistance is only permitted at designated checkpoints. Pacers and support runners are not allowed. Mandatory kit includes hat and gloves, waterproofs, spare thermal, emergency bivvy, capacity for 2 litres of water, at least 250 g emergency food, headtorch and spare batteries, a charged mobile phone with power bank and mapping apps, a map and a working compass. Take on the rugged North York Moors at Hardmoors 26.2 Goathland, a scenic but demanding 27.5 mile trail marathon. Expect big climbs, unmarked routes requiring map reading, and coastal views in a friendly series atmosphere.

Take on winter trails through Dalby Forest with 10km, half marathon and marathon options that wind through towering trees and moorland. Canicross friendly, with a bespoke medal, post race snacks and a welcoming atmosphere.

Test your winter trail legs on the Hardmoors 30, a scenic 30 mile coastal route from Robin Hood's Bay with about 3,400 ft of ascent and an 11 hour limit. Limited to 200 runners, it mixes rugged coastal paths and staffed aid stations.

Join the Hardmoors 15 on 3 January 2026 for a scenic 17.5 mile circular trail from Robin Hood's Bay along the Cinder Track and Cleveland Way. Limited to 150 runners, this winter coastal challenge rewards finishers with a medal and tech tee.

Scarborough Rock offers scenic 26 and 16 mile coastal and moorland routes from Scalby Parish Hall, passing Oliver's Mount. Popular LDWA event with checkpoints, food and a finishers meal; currently full with a waiting list.

Join a guided recce of the Hardmoors 55 route from Osmotherley to Helmsley, about 25 miles across classic North Yorkshire moorland. Small supported groups, checkpoints and hot drinks on arrival make this a great winter training day.
