Summits of the North York Moors Ultra - Goathland Village Hall
Summits of the North York Moors Ultra is a circular foot race of around 120 miles that visits the ten highest hills within the North York Moors National Park. The route crosses hills and moorland, follows ancient tracks and trods, and includes sections of the Cleveland Way, Esk Valley Walk and Lyke Wake Walk. Runners pass burial mounds, medieval boundary stones, ancient crosses and Bronze Age earthworks along clearly defined paths.
The course totals approximately 16,000 ft of elevation and has a 35 hour total time limit. The start and finish are at Goathland Village Hall. There are indoor checkpoints at circa 40 and 80 miles offering hot water, tea and coffee, pop and a range of food options including noodles, jacket potatoes and some vegan and gluten free choices. Participants may rest briefly at indoor checkpoints but the race clock continues to run. All entrants receive a tracker and a GPX file; one medium drop bag will be transported to the indoor checkpoints.
Support crews of up to three people and one vehicle are permitted but assistance is allowed only at designated checkpoints. Pacers and support runners are not permitted. Mandatory minimum kit is checked and includes items such as hat and gloves, waterproof jacket and bottoms, spare thermal layer, emergency bivvy, capacity for two litres of water, emergency food, head torch with spare batteries, charged mobile with power bank and mapping tools. Entry is limited to a maximum of 70 participants. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
