Summits of The North York Moors Ultra is scheduled for 4 to 5 July 2026 and is based at Goathland Village Hall, The Common, Goathland, YO22 5JS. The event is a circular foot race of around 120 miles with approximately 16,000 ft of elevation and a total time limit of 35 hours. Entry minimum age is 18 and the event is limited to a maximum of 70 participants. Entry fee is £110.

Course and checkpoints

The route visits the 10 highest hills within the North York Moors National Park and follows parts of the Cleveland Way, Esk Valley Walk and Lyke Wake Walk. The course passes ancient burial sites, medieval boundary stones, ancient crosses and Bronze Age earthworks. There are indoor checkpoints at circa 40 and 80 miles offering hot water, tea and coffee, pop, various food options including noodles, jacket potatoes and some vegan and gluten free choices. One medium drop bag per participant will be transported to the indoor checkpoints. All entrants receive a tracker and a GPX file of the route.

Rules and required kit

Support crews are limited to a maximum of three people and one vehicle and may assist runners only at designated checkpoints; emergency extraction is the only exception. Pacers and support runners are not allowed. No sticks, no headphones and no pre-caching of equipment or food. Participants must carry a minimum kit that will be checked. Minimum kit includes hat and gloves, waterproof jacket and trousers, spare thermal top or jacket, emergency bivvy bag, capacity to carry 2 litres of water, at least 250 g of emergency food, head torch with spare batteries, a charged mobile phone with power bank and leads and with OS Locate and What3Words loaded, a map (OSL 26/27 or Harvey’s North Yorkshire Moors) and a working compass.
