44th South Shropshire Circular
The event starts and finishes at Oswestry Memorial Hall, Smithfield St, Oswestry SY11 2EG, with a mass start from nearby Cae Glas Park, a 4 minute walk from check in. The route is a single circular walk of 26 miles with about 3380 ft of ascent and a 10 hour time limit. The exact route will not be given out until the morning of the event.
This event requires basic map and compass skills. The route description enables plotting on OS Explorer 240 (Oswestry/Croesowalt) at 1:25 000; the description alone is not sufficient to navigate. Participants may use GPS devices but GPX files will not be issued and a paper map must be carried as a backup.
The route is divided into four legs with three serviced checkpoints: one basic checkpoint and two checkpoints with toilets, hot drinks and food. On return to Oswestry there will be hot food, hot drinks and a fine certificate. Dogs are not permitted and entrants must be 18 or older on the event date.
Entries open 1 November 2026 and close 20 February 2027. Entry fees are £15 for LDWA members and £20 for non members. Full refund less SI administrative costs is available until 30 January 2027; refunds after that date are at the organiser's discretion.
Mandatory kit includes a mug; walking boots or fell running shoes with well studded soles; full body and leg covering; wind and waterproof jacket and over trousers; spare inner garment; hat and gloves; survival bag; emergency food and drink; torch; basic first aid; compass and whistle; and OS Explorer sheet 240.
