Hillfort Hustle 10 Mile and 5 Mile Trail Races

The Hillfort Hustle is a pair of trail races held on 19 July 2026 in Aymestrey, Herefordshire (HR6 9ST). The event is organised by Croft Ambrey Running Club and uses a field opposite The Riverside Inn for the race area, start and finish. Routes run through North Herefordshire countryside, pass the village of Leinthall Earls and enter the private Gatley Estate with permission to use its grounds.

Both courses mix country lane, tracks and trails and include a climb to the Iron Age hillfort at Croft Ambrey, followed by a descent back toward the finish. Elevation gain is approximately 1,000 feet on the 5 mile route and 1,800 feet on the 10 mile course. The event is cup free; the 5 mile route has one water station at 2.5 miles and the 10 mile route has water at 2.5 and 7.5 miles. Routes are fully marked and marshalled and tail runners will be present.

Race administration includes on the day entries if capacity allows, and a registration tent where timing chips and race numbers are issued and bags may be left. Toilets are available at the start and finish but there are no changing facilities. A juniors race for ages 15 and under uses a marked 2 km course; finishers receive a medal. Food and drinks will be available at the finish with proceeds to village hall and church restoration funds. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
