Hillfort Hustle 10 Mile and 5 Mile Trail Race

The Hillfort Hustle takes place on 19 July 2026 in Aymestrey, Herefordshire HR6. The event includes two trail races that start and finish opposite the Riverside Inn and pass through the village of Leinthall Earls and the private Gatley Estate.

The courses run over country lanes, tracks and trails and include a climb to the Iron Age hillfort at Croft Ambrey. The 10 mile course has about 1,800 feet of climb. The 5 mile course has about 1,000 feet of climb.

Both routes are fully marked and marshalled, with tail runners on course. The race is cup free. The 5 mile route has a water station at 2.5 miles. The 10 mile route has water stations at 2.5 and 7.5 miles. Runners are asked to bring a mug or water bottle.

Registration is handled at a registration tent where timing chips and race numbers are collected; bags can be left there. There are toilets at the start and finish but no changing facilities. Distance changes are permitted on race day; changing from 10 mile to 5 mile carries no charge, changing from 5 mile to 10 mile costs £5 cash.

A junior 2 km race for participants aged 15 and under will take place around lunchtime, with a £3 entry on the day and medals for all junior finishers. Food and drinks will be available at the finish, with sales supporting local village hall and church restoration funds. Prize giving takes place after each race.
