The Railway Ultra is a multi-distance running event organised by How Hard Can It Be Events. The summer event is scheduled for 25 July 2026. The route runs along the banks of the River Severn between Ironbridge and Bridgnorth, following a disused railway line and passing remnants of local industrial heritage. There is a 7 hour cut off for the event.

Each out-and-back lap is 9.4 miles. Aid stations are placed approximately every 4.7 miles.

Location and logistics

The event headquarters is at TF8 7JF on the disused railway behind The Woodbridge Public House. Parking is a 10 minute walk away at the Coalport China Museum and Coalport YHA; parking charges apply. There are four pubs within one mile of the start and the Coalport YHA is within one mile.

Entry and eligibility

Entry fees range from £28 to £42 depending on distance. The 28 mile and 37 mile ultras are open to entrants aged 18 and over. The half marathon is open to entrants aged 17 and over. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.

Trail runs nearby

Take on Stybarrow Dodd: a 4 mile winter fell run in the Lake District with 700 m climb. Part of the Kong Winter Series, pre entry required and limited to 200 runners.

Take on the Winter Bumble Bimble 5 mile trail run from the Park Gate Inn in Bromsgrove on Sunday 30 November 2025. Entries are limited to 300 and all finishers get a medal as you tackle woodland, rolling fields and muddy scenic trails.

Join the Cannock Chase Forest Christmas 10K, 5k or Junior Fun Run on 6 December 2025 at Birches Valley for a festive run through scenic wooded trails. Expect medals, free photos and fancy dress prizes while supporting Shelter.

Take on 50 miles of winter trails around Telford and Shropshire, taking in Ironbridge and the Wrekin at the Telford T50 Trail Run. Clear waymarking, well stocked aid stations and friendly marshals make for a rewarding endurance day.
