The Railway Ultra

The Railway Ultra is a multi-distance running event held along the banks of the River Severn between Ironbridge and Bridgnorth. The route follows a disused railway line and offers river views and visible traces of the area's industrial heritage. Event headquarters is at TF8 7JF on the disused railway behind The Woodbridge Public House. Parking is a ten minute walk away at the Coalport China Museum and Coalport YHA; parking charges apply.

Each out-and-back lap measures 9.4 miles. Aid stations are positioned approximately every 4.7 miles and are described as well stocked. The event has a seven hour cut off for completion. The Railway Ultra is scheduled as both a winter and a summer event in 2026, with the winter edition on 21 February 2026 and the summer edition on 25 July 2026.

Trail runs nearby

A 6.7 km fell race around the Stiperstones from Snailbeach with 375 m of ascent, steady climbs and mixed descents. Entries are available by pre-entry or on the evening and proceeds support local charities and Natural England.

A single-lap 10 km off-road race at Wyre Forest, based at Callow Hill Visitor Centre. Canicross is permitted, entry is £10 in advance or £15 cash on the night, places are limited and basic facilities are provided.

A 59 mile point to point ultramarathon following much of the River Severn from Shrewsbury to Worcester. The race has four checkpoints with vegan and gluten free options and enforces a minimum pace of 4.0 miles per hour.

A point to point 57 mile ultra along the Severn Way from Worcester to Stonehouse, passing Upton-on-Severn, Tewkesbury and Gloucester. Four checkpoints offer vegan and gluten free options, finishers receive a bespoke medal and a head visor.
