The Railway Ultra

The Railway Ultra is a multi distance race along the banks of the River Severn between Ironbridge and Bridgnorth. The route follows a disused railway line and passes riverside sections and traces of the area's industrial heritage.

Distances available include:

  • 9 miles
  • Half Marathon (13.1 miles)
  • 19 miles (3/4 Marathon)
  • 28 miles
  • 37 miles

Each out and back lap measures 9.4 miles. Aid stations are positioned roughly every 4.7 miles. The event uses a seven hour cut off for completion. Headquarter facilities are located at TF8 7JF on the disused railway behind The Woodbridge Public House. Parking is a ten minute walk away at the Coalport China Museum and at the Coalport YHA; parking charges apply.

The Railway Ultra will return in 2026 with a Winter Railway Ultra on 21 February 2026 and a Summer event on 25 July 2026. Several pubs lie within one mile of the start on the river and the Coalport YHA is also within one mile of the start. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
