The Moors Traverse is described as an 80 km ultra running event that follows Wainwright’s coast to coast route from Ingleby Cross to Robin Hood’s Bay. The route runs along the northern edge of the North York Moors National Park and continues through eastern Yorkshire to the shoreline finish at Robin Hood’s Bay. The advertised total ascent is about 1,600 m, though the route and exact distance vary between editions.

Route, support and requirements

The route is not fully waymarked; participants receive an official waterproof paper map at registration and digital mapping via the Avenza app, plus a GPX file. Aid Stations and guidance points are provided along the route; stage distances listed include Lordstones (13 km), Lion Inn (32 km), Glaisdale (46 km), Falling Foss (61 km), Hawsker (70 km) and the Robin Hood’s Bay finish (listed at 77 km). Aid Stations offer hot and cold drinks, a range of snacks, and medical cover is usually present. A Finishers Drop Bag (maximum 5 kg) is transported from the start to the finish. Mandatory kit is required and checked at registration; a downloadable checklist is provided.

Entries and logistics

Minimum age is 18. Entry fees are tiered, from £85 up to £105 depending on the booking date. A coach transfer service is arranged from Robin Hood’s Bay to the start location; seats are bookable for a fee. The event awards ITRA points and contributes to the UTMB index.
